Yeah its very manageable! I'm shocked, when I have the windows up and just normal driving I can barley hear it. But when I give it a little gas I can hear it.
Installing a catback won't void a warranty in any way, legally. I've seen a dealership reject a warranty on cats on an 07 tundra saying that the magnaflow catback caused it to go lean and it destroyed the cats. LOL. That's the most pitiful excuse for getting out of a warranty I've ever heard. But the customer didn't fight it , he didn't think it was worth it. He just ordered up a set of my bolt on mid pipes with cats and problem was solved.
This is certainly an isolated incident. I speak to hundreds of tundra owners over the course of a year, and this was the first and only time I've heard of that.
Sounds awesome! Really wanted to get the Outlaw but I just cant justify spending that much for a new muffler and pipes. I was planning on just going to a shop and welding on some Flowmaster Super 10s but I went to like 4 different muffler shops around Houston and they all highly suggested not getting Flowmasters. So after talking to them they suggested trying a Dynomax Bullet which they said is just as loud but without too much drone in the cab.
You'll find that once you remove the half wave resonator that Toyota built into the stock exhaust, that anything you do will drone.
That's the point of the single or dual exhaust that I build for our trucks, you get that awesome race car sound without the drone because every system that I build includes a quarter wave resonator.
And my budget system at only $379 is a real good price!!
I love how this system sounds! I saw your video on Youtube before I joined the forum and was sold on the Outlaw right away. Out of stock until September 10, but once its available I will be ordering one too.
I read something somewhere that indicated that installing a free-flowing cat back system could cost you a couple of mpg's. Didn't make much sense when I read it. Can anyone shed any light?
For our vvti to work right you need a certain amount of scavenging. Anytime you go true duals or too big of a single pipe you slow down the exhaust velocity. Scavenging is less , and low end torque is lost.
Two questions: So why does pretty much every ad for cat-back systems claim increases in HP and torque? Do those gains only come at higher RPMS? And even if the reduced back pressure costs a bit of torque, how does that equate to lost MPG? Thanks!
Anytime you remove the restrictive stock muffler you gain hp
Anytime you slow down the exhaust stream you lower volumetric efficiency, this loses low end torque an mpg suffers since you have to step on the gas pedal harder.
I've done extensive dyno and track testing to come to this conclusion. Anyone can make a little more power.
The key is to make power, make it without droning. And, not lose low end torque
This just goes to show ya that Keith is the frickin man... He is willing to help even when its not his exhaust... Personally I don't know why you wouldn't want a BAmuffler...they are the best Gains, beautiful tone AND no drone... I LOVE IT!!!
Actually what I'm leaning toward is a set-up I saw on Youtube, on an older Tundra. Guy installed an electric diverter valve ahead of the stock muffler and with a couple of Y-pipes, ran a Flowmaster 40 in a run parallel to the stock muffler, rejoining the exhaust pipe downstream. Very clean professional installation. With the flick of a switch he had a choice of stock stealth quiet, or the rumble of the FM40.
While perhaps not the FM40, I think overall this set-up would be perfect. I'd love the rumble around town, but a recent road trip convinced me I wouldn't want to live with the higher sound level in steady-state freeway driving.
Obviously such an animal probably requires more than just "bolt-on" but I'll bet if you built a ready-to-install package like that, you wouldn't be able to ship them fast enough.
I like it but it sounds too aggressive for my taste. I want something with a throaty idle , stockish mid range but I want to to come to life when I really stomp on it.
Have Keith custom make it for you. Will be exactly what you want and hand made. Plus have fun dealing with one of those larger corp's if you have an issue. Kieth is top notch customer service...I, and hundreds of others on this site can attest to that.
i had a 50-series it was nice and tame. It sounded great but I wanted a little bit louder thus the Flowmaster Outlaw Cabtack. Sound sooooooo great! It does drone a touch but well worth it.
I have the FM American Thunder catback and it's between the Outlaw and the 50 series. It uses the 40 series muffler. Sounds perfect for my taste. Rumble at start up and has a very deep tone when cruising. Only drones when 60 - 65 mph. But I only drive over 55 mph only 10% if that.
Ya. Phones are pretty crazy. But I've gotten back to everyone. Sorry it didn't work out. If you need any help with the install or anything else feel free to give a call, I'm happy to help however I can.
And for anyone else interested Just give a call. 760-877-4234
