Hey gang, I am curious if I am overpaying for an exhaust system. I have a 5.7L crewmax with stock single exhaust. I have looked for a dual/dual online and cheapest I find is $650 and up for dual/dual flowmaster 40 delta including piping and clamps and tips. Went to 2 local shops that are highly regarded in my community and they quoted me $550 and $450. Pipes are welded, mild and includes stainless tips.
I went ahead with the $450 quote. Installing next week. The shop here does high quality work for me in the past on other things, so I'm not concerned about install. What do you think of that price and what are you all paying for your exhaust systems? I've seen quite a few going with flowmaster.

I've already got the order placed. I know I'm doing this out of order lol. Just curious what you all are paying. Do you guys like the bolt on with clamps over welding?

I went with powersticks ( $76 for a pair) and had a shop run and weld the dual setup, they charged $250. I went with turn downs on each side of the spare, since I didnt buy tips and you did, I would say 450 is not really over the top. I would have paid close to that if I had bought tips also. I have always had my aftermarket systems welded, I know guys who think gaskets and clamps are the only way. If you trust your shop like you say you do then it will really only come down to your preference. Welds will break and bolts will come loose, I just always went weld. In my mind I felt better with them.

Thanks for the info. I havent had the shop do any work yet but did you go with an aftermarket cat or stay stock and only upgrade from the muffler-back? Will that stock cat affect the sound/performance? I'm not trying to spend more money but I dont want to dig back into it if it's going to sound like shit with stock cats.
btw, the flowmaster 40 delta PN is 9525454, which is a 2.5" dual/dual with flat tips

I kept all four stock cats on the system, I called Toyota Service Dept. and they said some warrantys could be voided if I removed them, I know some folks on here have taken off the back two or placed "high flow cats on there". Mine is plenty loud with the cats, im 27 so I get off on a good rumble and the 5.7 will do it. My grandmother has a 67 charger with the flat tips, they have a very distinct but nice sound. I was iffy on the pipe size, I ordered the 2.5 inch powersticks but when I got to the shop I went with 2.25 inch pipe and just expanded the pipe ends to match the mufflers. The factory size is closer to 2.25 inch and if you go to big over the manifold size on the motor you can really hurt torque, its all about pressure equalization, I found a good read online explaining exhaust theories. One of the things in the read was to get the muffler as far away from the motor as possible, in order to allow the exhaust gases time to cool and slow down before hitting the muffler ( a few things to think about). Talk with your shop while they do it and ask questions and see what there theories are. I was gonna go with an "X" pipe also but my shop talked me out of it. These are my opinions, someone feel free to correct them if need be, I am no expert by any means

I don't think you need to mess around with cats (you could if you want, but may run into problem with inspection depending on where you live). TRD, Borla, and Corsa do not touch the cats, but all of them sound awesome.
By the way, if you want to feel good about the money you spent, look at the prices of those systems.

BA Mufflers are sick, no denying that...but your gonna pay close to double of what your local shop is charging, and it wont be a dual like you want...

Yeah I looked into Trd, borla, etc and did some searching on here what people are using. Seems like flowmaster and magnaflow are top 2. Everything online seems like its a lot higher than local shop. I guess the local shops can still be competitive with online markets. It just seemed like a price of $450 is too good to be true or I'm forgetting something. I talked to the shop this morning about upgrading cats and he gave me the same answer of not messing with it. I've read somewhere that there's a possibility changing cats or gutting them might trigger a CEL or like you said emissions failure (my state doesn't have emissions inspections...yet lol).
As for the muffler placement, I agree the muffler needs to be placed towards rear of exhaust system. You see a lot of that already with cars and SUVs where basically the tip is coming off the end of the muffler.
Here's a video of the same setup I'm going with (minus the cats of course)
I had true dual Flowmaster Super 44's put on my truck bout this time last year, They are in stock location exiting out the back like in that vid the OP posted. Mufflers, install and stainless tips cost me ~$550 everything is welded.
It sounds awesome at idle and can get pretty darn loud if I want it to.

What does "true dual" mean? Just two separate single/single? With dual/dual is exhaust dumping into one chamber and coming out whichever pipe it happens to come out?

single/single from front to back. You do lose a little bit of torque this way and I am considering getting a cross or H pipe put in to get it back.

Looks great Mickey! More I see the tips come out under the bumper the more I like it! I just might go with that layout. If you don't mind sharing what did you pay for on that borla, installed?
