Aftermarket Backup Sensors

I have been searching the site and cannot find much info. Can anyone explain to me why the OEM backup sonar is so expensive? Has anyone added aftermarket sensors with any luck. I just backed into a short pole at the gas station last week and have aquired a new chrome bumper with the sensor holes. (Thanks again Silverstone!) Anyway, since backing into stuff tends to get a little expensive and makes my new truck look like hell I wanted to take advantage of the holes and add some sensors. I'm thinking just sensors with the audible notification is fine. I know some systems have lcd screens but I don't really need that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

OME = $$$

I put a set of aftermarket ones on my truck. They worked pretty good but I would get false readings at times.

Hope you aren't on dial-up.

I would just shell out the dough for the OEM stuff. The truck is more than likely pre-wired for it anyway.

Those 5.7's really look like a bitch to turn, or back up. I only have problems at night in the rain. My reverse lights aren't bright enough.

Mine is actually very easy to turn and back up.

I have actually installed the Audiovox back up sensor system on several vehicles. It works well and I have not heard any complaints about falsing.

I found the audiovox psb100 system for $45 bucks online. Does that sound right for the kit? Seemed a little cheap.

I installed the Bully Dog back up sensors on my truck... I'm not happy with them at all... false alarms all the time! Get a little dirt on them and they sound off, a little rain they sound off, snow they sound off... Got another set of sensors same old crap. Even when their clean;no rain,no snow, and they get hot from the direct sun light sound off!!! Now for the really bad part... after this past winter I've noticed that I had rust streaks running down the chrome from the 22mm drill holes that I carefully prepped with paint and silicone sealant. To say the least I'm pissed I ever did this to my truck... they are currently disconnected and I know I'll have to one day buy a new rear bumper .

Surprisingly, mine work best in the rain. Never could figure out why.

I agree with SWThomas and would just shell out the dough for the OEM stuff. You've put all that $$ on up-grades in your truck and why not go for the OEM sensors. If you have to wait a couple of days or weeks to save for the OEM, do so. It will pay off in the long run. Meanwhile put some blk rubber caps on the holes so it wont look as bad and so it wont rust. I doubt it that it will rust since you've acquired a factory replacement bumper, that the holes were put in and then chromed. That's if you don't mind how it looks now. Just my suggestion.

Forget the OEM parking sensors. Spend that money on a camera and monitor. I haven't used the rear sensors since I put the camera in.

^i agree. never understood why people opted for sensors when a camera and monitor make things 10x easier

I have a cheap audiovox wireless camera and it has saved me on a few occasions. I plan on going with a wired aftermarket system in the future but this is good for now. the sonar says something might be there. with the camera you can see. and wit parking in the city, you can see how close you are. plus it helps with lining up the hitch.
I say rubber plugs or those dot reflectors should fill the holes nicely

My CM has sensors and I love them. I have little kids that like to run around and I don't always look at the backup camera. I wish my wifes Honda Odyssey came with them. She backed up at the daycare and slammed right into the car behind her. She has a backup camera on the navi but the sunlight shines on it sometimes and you can't see squat. Sensors are a must in my opinion. All cars should have them. It should be the law.
