Activating Factory Alarm

Hello everyone I am a newly transitioned Ford Guy to the world of Tundra. I do not know why I did not do it sooner than 2008. Never the less, I am Happy to be here.

I have found this site so helpful with things regarding do it yourself stuff for the tundra. (I THINK THIS IS A GREAT SITE). This site has explained to me install for step boards, which turned out great. This site has also explained to me regarding this gas tank thing that was driving me absolutly nuts .

I came across something about a factory installed alarm which needs activation. According to all the posts, I should have the alarm in my truck .

Unfortunatly the link with the instructions has been removed. Does anyone out there know where I can find a complete copy before I go to the dealer. I know that once I go there without something, I'll get the runaround. If anyone can direct me to this info, it would be really appreciated.
Thanks

Yeah the website that had the instructions on it is down. Luckily I have the PDF file on my computer. I can't attach it because of it's size. PM your email address and I'll send you the PDF file. It is the instructions for turning on your alarm using the TechStream computers that the mechanics use. I took a printed out copy with me to the dealership. They used it and then kept it for future reference. Two of the mechanics told me that they were bringing their trucks in the next day to do the same thing. Hopefully it will help you too. Look at pages 10-12.

Private message my username on the forums. It acts like an emailing system within the forum website. You can send me a private message on the forums with your email address without letting everyone else see it. I'll then send the file to your email address.

The low fuel light comes on when there is like 6 gallons left in the tank. The tank holds ~26 gallons and when I fill it up when the light comes on, I can only put ~20 gallons in. The low fuel light comes on too early for me. I think it is the design of the tank. It might be how the tank is rather elongated so the sensor might get to the bottom of the tank, but since the tank is long, there is actually a lot of gas left. Those are my thoughts.

Yep me too, I get ruffly between 360 and 380 miles to a tank when my low fuel light comes on. I go to fill up, I can only put in between 20 and 21 gallons. The fuel tank is a 26 gallon tank. so I have actually between 5 and 6 gallons left. I have driven with my light on and sweated alittle I was able to go 450 miles and then fuel up (25.something gallons). If you are going to try this I advise you to have a gas can filled up with you just in case. The toyota dealer told me that this is the way toyota has designed it to be. (A SAFTY FEATURE). I think with all the advancments in the world they could have just corrected this issue. But thats the way it goes.

FYI, went to the toyota dealer today. They activated the alarm for free. Glad I did not pay for it when I bought my truck ($595.00) for them to do the samething. I guess the sales dept and the service dept's do not talk regarding this issue.

Why isn't it activated when we take delivery on our trucks???

Is there a simple test to see if it's activated or not?

Regarding the gas tank thing, it's my understanding the last 5 gallons are there is keep the fuel pump submerged. I was told to keep it cool. Sounded weird that you would gasoline to cool something but it makes since that there's always 5-6 gallons left when the light comes on.

As far as a test. What I did was roll down my window. Press the lock postion on your key fob. wait for 1 min then reach in and open your door if the horn goes off and your lights blink. its activated. if nothing happens, its not.

They do not activate it at the time of the sale because they (dealer) wants some money. They act as if they have to install alot of stuff. It all depends on what type of veh you bought. 5.7L with remote keyless entry. It must have next to the clock a little red truck that appears when you have openned your door. You then most likly have the alarm installed already from the factory. You do have the GBS (glass breaking sensor) which is an option you can buy from the parts department. $110 to $190.

Well I called the dealer I bought my truck from and asked about activating the factory alarm...The service rep said:"we should have activated it when you took delivery"...At any rate, I made an appointment for 10/14 and they are going to check things out. I'll let you know how things turn out.
