They found out that the alarm is there and just needs to be activated. Since they had already ordered the upgrade part, GBS, they installed it. Bottom line I wound up with a free glass break all because they would not listen and hook up the techstream computer.

Similar experience here. I was told by one service "adviser" (and I use that term VERY loosely) that "If it had an alarm from the factory, it would have been turned on before it left." I then tried to explain to him about the blinking light, and he asked another service adviser (a guy who I will avoid like the plague because he really is a moron) who stated "The blinking light doesn't mean anything...it's just for show." Yeah, and to top it off they called their service manager who stated "I've NEVER heard of anything like that." All this time, they could have just hooked the truck up to the TechStream and found out...but no.

For anyone having trouble convincing their dealer, make them this challenge. If you are right, they have to give you a free GBS

SUCCESS!!

just went into my dealership for an oil change.

i told them i also wanted a few techstream adjustments...

1. wanted the Key Fob to unlock all doors with one push of the button.
2. turn off passenger seat belt alarm
3. activate theft deterrent system

the service manager had never heard of it, but i handed over the printed out instructions to give to his tech and there wasn't a problem.

they charged me 38 bucks for a half hour of labor to do the techstream mods. i was happy.

Glad to hear! It's amazing how much the dealer doesn't know about their own products

I would not be happy. When I sent you the sheet, I forgot to mention that the first setup done is free.

Is that across the board for any Toyota certified dealership? I HIGHLY doubt my dealership will do this for free.

This is a toyota thing not a dealer thing. You get a new truck and it is suppose to be set up for you. Any future changes are up to you. Just like the full tank of gas. Dealers like to say they will add that in as a negotiating ploy
