Sonar

Has anyone heard if "Sonar" can be added as an accessory?
Only problem is I have chrome front and rear bumpers.
I would think it would be pre-wired for the option.
Cheers

mine wasn't- and no one sells a kit for it. I picked up a generic 8 sensor kit off ebay and have the front installed already (ordered 4 more long wire sensors for the back).
The provided hole saw bit cuts through the chrome bumpers just fine. Drill a nice hole with a cobalt bit first, and use the small guide bit in the hole saw as a guide- not as a drill.

PS- for those of you who want to roll your own sonar kits-

With the 8 sensor kit, I routed the front wires around to the passenger side, up around the washer fluid reservoir, and into a grommet on the firewall next to the ECU.
I used one of the plugs next to the AUX connector- I cut it up and made a power switch so I can turn it on and off as I want (not slaved to reverse).

The rear sensors can be routed through a grommet under the rear tray on the RCSB, I'm sure on the DC and CM there is somewhere similar to do it.
The controller unit is sitting under that tray too.

Here's th eperson I dealt with to buy extra sensors- they were totally reliable with my purchase:
eBay Motors: Backup REVERSE PARKING 8 SENSOR LCD/SOUND 8 SENSORS (item 360068542528 end time Jul-15-08 02:03:37 PDT)

You will either need to buy 4 additional LONG wire sensors, or extend the kit sensor wires yourself, as 4 of the sensors come with short wires. The long ones are 20ft., the short are more like 8ft, and won't reach anything on our trucks.

I installed an after market 6 sensor sonar in my SR5 with chrome bumpers. And like most of my other mods, I did a write-up of how I did it.

After Market Parking Sensors (54 pictures) - Toyota Tundra Forum

I went with the silver ones so they aren't easily seen. If you look at the picture in my sig, there is a sonar in the corners of the bumper. I used to use it sometimes when backing up, but since I installed my rear camera, I rarely ever use it anymore. I will use it on rare occasions to be sure I have room in the front right corner. But the rest of the time, I leave the audio off and never open the compartment it is in. I installed the LCD display in the front most sunglasses holder.

Hidden:

The wires for mine were too short as well, but I just used some coax to extend them.

Yeah, the install was not fun at all. But it came out really nice in the end. I ran the wire through one of the grommets in the floor of the cab. I came up through the one under the back seat floorboard.

I can turn the audio on and leave that compartment closed. But every now and then it would get a false reading. Oddly enough, it always worked flawless in the rain. The LCD readout is nice, but it drops to zero when you are within 12 inches (or maybe a little more). In my book, 12 inches is plenty of clearance space while turning.

Here's a picture of the back of the truck. I chose the silver sensors so they aren't noticeable... as you can tell in the picture. But I think these can be painted so if I paint my bumper or go with something else, then silver won't be a problem.

yea it looks really good

i definitely agree with you that 12 inches is plenty of space, it shouldn't read 0

oddly enough, thats usually when i need the help is around that range, i can usually get that close perfectly fine
