Remote Engine Starter Question

I've had my DC 4X4 for about a month now and i have been looking into getting the remote engine start. I like the convienience but is it true that you have to turn the motor off and restart with the key to drive?

Another forum question for the masses:
Has anyone covered the carpet with something, where the left foot rest is? Seems like the floormats would mold around it, so the carpet doesn't get so dirty.

Thanks for the feedback.

Not sure about the Toyota remote start, but the Viper remote start systems you do not turn off the engine to put the key in. There are anti-theft functions that will turn the engine off like pressing on the brake to put the truck in gear without the key in the ignition.

Also, I've heard that the range on the Toyota remote start sucks. You can get a good Viper remote start/alarm for under $300.00.

Thnaks Syb. I have priced both Toyota's and Vipers starter. Price difference is about $350.00 installed. I had some mods done a few weeks ago at the dealership and asked why Toyota's was so much higher. First answer was that Viper didn't carry a warranty, which i told him they did. Second answer was that that price didn't include installation, which it did. He got so mad at that point that he threw down the "it'll void your warranty on the truck" card.
That just made me laugh.

I'm thinking of the 562CL. Does the 5701 have the security option?

Don't get the Toyota, waste of money. The engine shuts off when the key is inserted in the door. Or ignition.

It has ALL kinds of options. Not sure what security option you're talking about but here's the link to the site with all the info you could possibly need.

Viper 5701

The unit alone should cost around $300.00. Install no more than $100.00. It's supposed to be a much easier install than previous versions. A couple weeks ago there were some available on Ebay for under $300.00. Here you go, found one.

Viper 5701

There's a guy here with the screen name Bolivia who is getting this installed sometime soon. He should have some info for us.

That's a great price! I know I'm going to need the hood switch (extra $100.00) but that price is cheaper than the 562cl unit and it has less accessories. I'm sold. Thanks for the great tip.

The Viper is very reliable and works great! You simply push the remote start button and the vehicle starts, you can set the viper to run the vehicle for up to 12 minutes then it shuts itself off automatically. If you enter the vehicle while its running on remote start it continues to run until you depress the break pedal, this shuts off the motor. If you enter the vehicle while its running on remote start and you wanna keep it running, put the key in the ignition, turn it to acc then depress the break pedal and you are on your way.

That's the one for me. Thanks alot Dez. Now they just need to include the "change oil" button on the remote. I hear thats a real pain. Haven't had the pleasure yet but it's coming soon.

I got the toyota remote start, its ok. I would look into something aftermarket though. I live in wyoming, and in the middle of winter, it will be 40 below, I uasually let my car warm up for at least 20 minutes, the toyota one only makes the truck run for like 10 min.

Where are you guys having the remote starters installed at? I looked @ Best Buy a week ago and they don't have the Viper 5701. Thanks.
