Remote Engine Starter Question
I've had my DC 4X4 for about a month now and i have been looking into getting the remote engine start. I like the convienience but is it true that you have to turn the motor off and restart with the key to drive?
Another forum question for the masses: Has anyone covered the carpet with something, where the left foot rest is? Seems like the floormats would mold around it, so the carpet doesn't get so dirty. Thanks for the feedback. |

Not sure about the Toyota remote start, but the Viper remote start systems you do not turn off the engine to put the key in. There are anti-theft functions that will turn the engine off like pressing on the brake to put the truck in gear without the key in the ignition.
Also, I've heard that the range on the Toyota remote start sucks. You can get a good Viper remote start/alarm for under $300.00.

Thnaks Syb. I have priced both Toyota's and Vipers starter. Price difference is about $350.00 installed. I had some mods done a few weeks ago at the dealership and asked why Toyota's was so much higher. First answer was that Viper didn't carry a warranty, which i told him they did. Second answer was that that price didn't include installation, which it did. He got so mad at that point that he threw down the "it'll void your warranty on the truck" card.
That just made me laugh. ![]() |

Don't get the Toyota, waste of money. The engine shuts off when the key is inserted in the door. Or ignition.

I got the toyota remote start, its ok. I would look into something aftermarket though. I live in wyoming, and in the middle of winter, it will be 40 below, I uasually let my car warm up for at least 20 minutes, the toyota one only makes the truck run for like 10 min.
