It is NOT chromed but polished steel so no worries there.
One POSSIBLE negative is that while they have three support bars that attach to the underside of the truck, they seem to be a tad thinner than some others. I am 230 lbs and it holds me. The weight limit is 350 lbs ( I have seen bars with greater limits). Not sure why I would need to HOLD 500 lbs. But as far as look, they kick ass, particularly on an all black truck.

(I know I know, PICS!!)
You know the drill......

Just FYI guys, I have a pair of the N-Fab bars, but i think there are some changes that have been made. The first pair I recieved were damaged upon arrival, and the great folks at N-fab sent me out a new pair really quick. There were some differences between the first set (old style) and the replacement set(new style i think).

1)The old pair mounted with four brackets which connect the bars to the frame, while the new pair only use 3.

2)The N-Fab logo is actually stamped into the sets of steps on the new pair, whereas the original pair had just a sooth surface on the steps with raised bumps around them, as you can see in the pic that dez posted.

so if you are big into logos make sure you ask for the set with the embossed logo. they look really neat with the logo IMHO.

I ended up with a silver truck, I know I don't like chrome so that's easy, the gloss black would work just fine too but I'd sure like to see the other options before pulling the trigger. And I need the nerf bars in a bad way, I'm 5'7" and it's a bit of a climb to get in without any step

Here is my new baby:

I have Clearbra installed and Pro-Kote Bedliner (kinda like Line X, but a much better prep process) so I can haul my KTM and quad without tearing up the bed

and WeatherTech floorliners. Now I really need the Nerf steps and I haven't decided yet on which fender flares to go with. Decisions!!!

You all have been a great help, I mostly lurk and read and "window shop" but it's been great to have all you your knowledge to draw from.

Thanks guys!
My post above has pics of the textured finish up close
