Antenna options

The only thing I dislike about my truck in the antenna. On the highway and even sometimes regular streets it flaps around constantly and widely. And personaly to me it just seems too long.

Does anybody know o any replacement antenas that would just screw on, perhaps be half the height of the stock one. Was thinking it would be awsome to take the antenna from a BMW, or several other cars out now that use the same set up, the shark fin looking one and have it right over the stock antenna spot. Thats just wishfull thinking though.

So any ideas?

Actually bought one off Ebay. Same as the one in the link form the same guy. bid a dollar and it will be 8 for shipping. Even if it doesnt work at all in the end I spent $9. Will put pics if it even fits and little review of how it sounds, again if it actually works.

Even if I could find one like that one that is a quality one I would be happy. Just a matter of digging.

This might be a stupid question, but have you all tried tightening the antenna? Mine was very loose, tightened it down, haven't noticed it since.

Try going to a local commercial radio shop. They can probably find you something that would work better.

yea when I got mine it was loose. Tightened it by hand and it was good for a while, then checked it recently and it was loose again, tightened it down pretty hard with a wrench, filled up 2 days ago and checked it and was a hair loose did it by hand.

Yea backed out of a temp. loading/unloading parking space last night and there was a tree with a little branch kinda low but wasnt going to come near the cab. go to back and and hear something thinking it was a rim on the curb but i didnt feel it in the wheel, and I kinda panicked thinking i scraped a car but I again hadnt felt a thing. look forward and my antenna was flopping around like there were 100 mph winds + an earthquake. it clipped a little branch, practically a leaf.

Ill try that codiac, Would also go to advanced auto parts or something but thanks to Boca Ratons stupid limits on what stores can be in the city limits of Boca the closest one in in palm beach a ft lauderdale. both 30+ mins away.

Just gona go to a few places in Tampa when im home this weekend.

Whatever antenna you decide on, if it loosens up again, try some blue loctite threadlocker on the threads. Not red locktite threadlocker, unless you want to have to take a torch to the antenna to remove it.

Now, got to remember to check my antenna when I go out in an hour or so. If it's loose, out comes the blue loctite.

Shortened ant. on my F-150[pulled knob off end, cut with hack saw, replaced knob], works fine, maybe n0t same range but good. I believe there is a formula to use when deturmining length of antenna. Will probably bdo same on my Tundra when weather breaks.

My antenna is always hand tight. It doesn't come any looser. One of the last mods I will do is get a power antenna put there.

I got the antenna in on saturday. It went on very easily. It came with around 4-5 different thread adapters. The Toyota one is easy to match to the stock antenna threads and it goes is like the stock antenna. There's a rubber coller hat you snug in and it takes a little force to get it all the way down due to the body piece around the antenna mount. But that holds it down tight. It is a softer rubbery material that will bend at just about every speed, but the difference, and improvement over stock in my opinion besides the drastically reduced height,is it will "hang back" in the wind instead of swinging around. It gets as good-better reception than the stock. Took it through the car wash and around town for 2 days then across the state up to 100 mph and it worked all the time and was still snug as can be when I got back tonight.

Will post pics tomarow. The brand on the packaging just says Euro Designz, or designs cant remember.

I figured it wouldnt work or even fit on, but couldnt beleive it went on so easy, IMO improved signal and m girlfriend won the bid for mine at $0.99. Ha best deal I have ever seen. She bid on one for her 06 mustang right after we put it on my truck.
