Bassani Exhaust for 07/08 Tundras

I called Bassani and they have a kit coming for the 07/08 Tundras.

They have a part number and their engineering department is close to fielding the system to their distributors.

It features a single large muffler with 2 1/4" twin inlets and 2 1/2" outlet(s) depending on which kit you buy (similar to the other kit options.........stock style, dual stock location, dual side, dual exit, etc).

In the interim, I couldn't wait (who knows how long it will be) so I ordered Bassani's universal mufflers (5x10x24) with offset inlets and center outlets. I'll have the muffler shop run me some duals out the back and save a few hundred dollars over the Bassani full kit. The Bassani kit will no doubt be higher quality (stainless) but I have yet to rust out an exhaust system on any of my vehicles and I don't drive through salt water so I don't think alumized components will be all that bad.

The mufflers should arrive early next week, once installed, I'll try to post some sound clips.

I would love a Bassani kit, but it being from them will prob cost over a grand for a cat-back.

Somewhere in that neighborhood if you get the stainless. The BX kit will probably run $800 or so. Those prices are in line with Borla.

If you love Bassani, the best way to do it is to order the mufflers and have a shop fab you up a dual setup with tips.

I had a Bassani setup on my last mustang and after I gutted the car, I had the mufflers and my GF wanted some mufflers on her F150 (which had the same 4.6) so we had the shop fab up a dual setup. Sounds awesome.

If you love Bassani sound like I do, it's worth the effort.

If I go out and get my own muffler, then take my truck to a shop and have them make me some custom pipes, not SS all the way thought, but just some tips. How much am I looking at money wise?? I lile the look of the dual exhausts coming out the back bumper, one on each end.

$500 range? I think I have heard someone saying a simple custom one from a shop was around there and they brought a muffler to the shop.

Thing that sucks for me is I gota go all SS right? As Im primarily in FL on both coasts where the air is salty.

I got my mufflers $280 shipped to my door. One of the cheapest Bassani distributors is right there in CA (if you call Bassani tech, they probably know who, I'd have to dig up who I bought them from then). I just bought another set for my truck on Ebay from blue oval (do a search for Bassani mufflers).

The exhaust shop should not charge you more than $200 (high end) to do a dual setup with tips. I think my GF and I spent $170 (with tax and everything) to have it done to her truck. But that may be higher out in Cali.

At any rate, it's a whole lot cheaper than ordering a full kit from Bassani or Borla or some of the premium exhaust manufacturers. That and you get the added benefit that if the tips don't line up just perfectly, you can make them adjust em.

I was speaking about it with co workers today and I think most of the shops nowadays use the same stuff that's in the Bassani BX kits, it's cheaper and still corrosion resistant.

Again, as long as you're not driving your truck through saltwater at the beach, you should be okay. If you do a lot of mudding through brine or salt water, obviously you should get full on stainless.

Update:

I remembered that when I crawled under my tundra, there was 2 in and 1 out.

That means to run 2 mufflers, you'd need a crossover/H/X somewhere in the system. So I purchased a universal x for $49 shipped to my door.

That leaves the total materials at $330.00

If I can get the exhaust fabbed up for $170.00 That will put me at $500 total for the setup, not bad compared to what it will cost for the whole setup from Bassani.

Also, the tech I talked to at Bassani said he'd do a custom muffler for like $130 or so (plus shipping). All you have to do is send them a sketch of what you want. So you could do a 2.25" dual in and a 2.5" dual out for the large truck style muffler included in most kits.

If you did that, it'd cut this whole thing down significantly.

You could also have them make two slightly smaller and skinnier 1 in 1 out mufflers so you could run 2 individual pipes, 1 into each, and have them be longer length wise to make up for the lost displacement width wise. hat way you could have them both sit in the stock muffler location then a pipe out the back of each to either side or to the back bumper.

That's essentially what you do with two mufflers, they both fit canted in the stock location. However, to maintain proper flow and power, it has to have a crossover of some sorts to help scavenging and also balance out pressure. You can do that either via the stock setup in the muffler itself, an x or h pipe, but without a crossover, it becomes a "true dual" setup, which sounds nice, but doesn't make as much power.

The firing order for the V-8 and the scavenging phenomenon make a true dual setup inferior to a crossed over setup.

Yea forgot to add in the crossover. Personally a fan of x pipes, but H's are the old school way of doing it.

You gona leave the cat alone?

That's awesome. How does it sound? I've always been a fan of Bassani, they have the best sound (in my opinion) and have always been at the top as far as performance is concerned. Quality is top notch, but then again, the price tag is high as well, so there's nothing profound there.

How do you like it so far?
