I emailed weathertech (twice) explaining that my truck was a big purchase that I want to protect. I bought weathertechs based on brand name and idea that they were made in USA and expected them to protect my investment. After only a few months the unprotected left foot rest area is brownish and wearing. Weathertechs are not doing their job.
I received a phone call from a weathertech representative.
In the nicest way possible, he told me I should have known they would suck based on the pictures. And I am shit outta luck...
Time to buck up (again) for Huskys...
I always recommend against weathertech. I had them and they started rolling up at the door sill which made my foot catch on them which made them roll up more. Weathertech didn't seem to care. They did nothing.
i can relate having owned weathertech mats in my last vehicle and in the end finding them to be not very good at all. the husky x-contours that are laying in my truck now are completely awesome and i'd recommend them to anyone here.
many will agree that the best set up is to use x-contour front mats and a weatherbeater for the rear.
Last time I tried Weathertechs, was for my 08 4Runner. Passenger side never fit correctly, so they went back.I've had the 'old-style' Huskys in my '93 and '99 Dodges,Wife has them in her 04 Pilot. Her Liners have over 282,000 miles on them I have the same style in my 2010 Tundra. If we should need another set for Wife's "newer" Pilot (if we ever find one),we'll certainly try Husky's Weatherbeater.
I've been happy with mine, with the exception of the passenger front. There's no hook there, so it slides around a bit. I put some drawer liner under it and it helped some.
I've been putting Husky floor liners in all of my trucks for almost 20 years. They are basically indestructible and do their job better than any other floor mat out there. Yes, they are expensive but I'm a big believer in buying quality the first time. Saves me money in the long run.
I put the Husky X act contour in the front of my Tundra and they fit absolutely perfectly. I went with the Weathertech for the rear since they cover more area. They are terrible, dont fit tight at the edges and stick up and get in the way, I am going to buy a heat gun and see if I can mold them down. If that doesn't work I am going to get rid of them and get the Husky's.
I have the WeatherTech laser measured front and rear floormats. I had the same problem with the front passenger side mat slipping around when my wife tried to ingress or egress. I called WeatherTech Customer Service and nicely described the issue. The representative recommended a fix of attaching heavy duty Velcro under the mat to attach it to the carpeting thereby preventing the mat from slipping around. They promptly mailed me the Velcro at no cost. I installed it to the bottom of the floormat and firmly pressed the Velcro into the carpeting.
The only issue I have with this fix is the Velcro sticks better to the carpet under the floormat than it does to the bottom of the floormat. The floormat does not move now and can be fully removed without damage if desired.
The floormats did have to be warmed up to relax and fit the floor and door sill overlap. I like these floormats very well. I appreciate the full floor coverage for the rear floor area.
I hope this helps someone.
If you out Velcro on the passenger side, there's no movement at all.. Have to get the the bigger pieces, 1x3 maybe? But it's really strong.. Shouldn't have to do it, but lessons learned. Never again on weather techs
The husky's cover the foot rest alot better than the weathertechs. I only get about 1/2 coverage with my weathertechs. Don't think the husky's were out when I got mine.
A couple years ago I had the same issue with the passengers side slipping when my wife would get in and out. I called WeatherTech customer service and the woman was less than helpful. She first said "you can just return them if you don't like them". When I told her that wasn't what I wanted to do but was wondering if there was a fix for it, she just sent me the two clips that hold the drivers side in place. Not useful at all as you know there isn't a way to connect the clips to the passengers side floor. I bought some industrial strength velcro 2" wide and put it on the bottom of the mat. It kept coming off and rolling up under the mat. In my opinion as a consumer I really shouldn't have to fix the issue with the product I purchased and be given an attitude by customer service if I point out a flaw in the design. Based on my experience with customer service and the inferior design I won't be going with the WeatherTechs in the future.
I finally got tired of messing with the velcro on the WeatherTechs and bought some 3D floor mats. They are really good looking floor mats and have some kind of material on the bottom that sticks to the carpet like velcro, no slipping at all. They have been good mats but the drivers side is showing some wear now and they don't have the amount of floor coverage the WeatherTechs or Husky's do so when I replace them I might go with the Husky's.
Dealer had weathertech in my 2015 crew max. Drivers came with the holes to lock in mat. I know toyota promotes against but I put them over top of the carpet mats, no issue. I immediately noticed the tundra doesnt have a dead pedal for left foot or even the vinyl/plasic piece in the carpet-seems stupid to me-cost saver for them. I actually had an old black heavy duty floor mat from my pathfinder-cut a perfect piece and used velcro to attach-made my own dead pedal to protect carpet. Can snap a pic if you want
the weathertech (not their liners) are two separate mats / thick though-they dont cover the small hump in middle. have the toyota carpet mats(came with truck) underneath those and it covers the hump.
factory carpet in the tundra is so thin-i'm picky about keeping the interior clean and when I see a few blades of grass or something on the regular carpet like under the drivers seat by door its hard to pick up.
On a thread here somewhere was a recommendation for Husky in front and Weathertech in back (for CM). That's what I went with - knowing nothing else to do. It's been fine but not perfect. The driver's side mat has holes to work with the available twist locks. The back fits well - but the material is a little "stiff" for my taste. The passenger's side, however, is not to my liking. Husky provides a "screw" to embed in your carpet so that the mat does not move around. Friends that use that have carpet tears and holes. I went with the velcro approach and it's been OK.
i have husky x-act in the front. only about a week old so i cant say anything about how much they wear, but damn do they fit so nicely. they also go over the dead pedal so that is a plus. passenger side has never had a sliding problem yet but that could be due to the fact that they are new.
Here is the dead peddle I made from old mat. Hasn't moved and doesn't stick out, the flash from my phone since dark in garage. Mat is the standard Weathertech. The liners will keep the truck cleaner if you use it for work, this is a mainly pleasure truck for me and regular mats look more in line with the interior of the limited. I just wanted a place to rest my left foot.
I went with the Husky's up front, they fit like a glove. I went with the Weathertech rear in my CM since it covers more area, but I did have a buy a cheap heat gun to mold it to fit properly around the edges. Without out it, the edges stick up and don't lay flat.
Hey, my buddy just got his Weathertechs today and yea a little slippage on the passenger side.. Easy fix, but I don't suggest Velcro because once it gets hot, the adhesive gets slimy and you'll have the same problem.
Our fix makes it just like the drivers side.
Go back to the stealership and pick up some carpet anchors like on the drivers side, I think they were like $8 bucks total( I believe we got the Camry anchors because they have the upside down "T" that goes under the carpet for anchoring), next stop, local true value or ace hardware get two rubber grommets like for firewall use, pick a size that'll barely just fit over the anchors. Now, figure out where you want them for that factory look, make 2 slits in the carpet for the anchors, next put the mat down, and feel where the hump is, mark with a sharpie or chalk, do one side first so you don't get the holes mismatched, cut the hole for the rubber grommet(utility knife), test for fit of the grommet but before installing the grommet put a little silicone on it to keep water from seeping down to the carpet after the install, do the final install of grommets with silicone after both holes are cut and trial fitted with the grommets in place. When you're happy with the way it looks install the grommets with the silicone and let it sit overnight before final fitment so you don't get silicone everywhere..
Oh, I forgot to mention that when installing the anchors, go from the underside of the carpet..

That sounds like a well thought out and effective fix. My problem is I think WeatherTech should do this and not leave it to the people who buy their product. Nice job though.
