Hello all,
Over the weekend I (with a lot of help from a friend) installed a Transfer Flow 46Gal replacement tank on my new 2015 Tundra Crewmax 4x4. Note: I only have driven this in-town so far and hove only experienced 12 to 13mpg driving it with a slightly heavy foot. No highway trips planned until September.
I ordered the tank with the spray-on coating. I am not sure if I would order it again with the coating for 2 reasons.
1. It feels slightly sticky and looks like it will collect dirt.
2. It adds a lot of weight to the tank, the thing was like 150lbs!
* if you can lift the truck and put on jack stands or blocks about 6" off the ground install will be cake.
The install if pretty straight forward. 2 bolts and 2 pins for the old tank. About 3 to 4 connections for the fuel pump ( you will get covered in gas when unhooked with the residual pressure in the fuel lines) and the filler neck and breather.
Sorry the temps outside were about 108 degrees and couldn't snap any decent pics.
Here is the old tank next to the shipping box of the new tank, you can see how much longer the transfer flow is.
Before the tank my fuel gauge would be at 80 miles - 3/4 tank, 150 miles - 1/2 tank, and 225 miles - 1/4 tank. Around 275 miles fuel light. (only did this once to replace the tank)
Now so far I am at 100 miles on this tank and I am just below F.
Here is a shot of the dash right when the fuel gauge started to move off F. Normally I would be right around 3/4
Everything seems to work correctly right now.
The Distance to empty read out:
Before install would read about 340 miles to E with it dropping faster than I am actually driving. Usually get about .8 to .9 miles on the dash for every mile I drive. So it drops pretty quick.
After install it said 457 to empty. It is not dropping as fast as it use to. I now have 100 miles on the tanks and it say I have 379 to E.
It is adjusting, but can't quite figure it out since it is programmed for 26 gals. Still happy that it is trying to adjust.
