oil and filter combo

Hi all. I am getting close to 5k on my crewmax and was wondering what other owners were using for oil and filter change. I was thinking of using Mobil 1 and toyota filter.

Mobil 1 5-20 is what I use in my 5.7. I've used it in all my stock and race engines for years and swear by it.

Also, the Toyota filter is excellent. I just read an independent study of just about every oil filter on the market, and Toyota was one of the best as far as it's element and by-pass valve. The others similar in best ranking were the Mobil 1 filter, Motorcraft and Purolator Pure 1.

The review said to buy the Motorcraft if you're looking to use the Toyota, because you'll save 2 to 3 bucks and it's basically the same filter.

The review also said to stay away from most Fram filters because they have very cheap cardboard ends on their elements that blow out, and the by-pass valves can stick open; which kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a filter in the first place.

Thumbs up

Just FYI, look out for the cost when you take it in. The truck holds over 7 qts of oil and a drop in type filter, not a screw on. All these factors raise the price. Local dealer in NC charges $50.
