I have a 2011 Tundra CrewMax. I bought it a year ago in January and it was great up until this winter. It seems like when the snow starts to melt and my truck gets wet then all of the doors except the driver door will not unlock. (So my driver door is the only one that will function correctly 100% of the time). But if I manually unlock all of the doors that don't work then they will all lock. But this only happens when the truck gets wet. I have taken it through the car wash and it seems most of the time this will also make the door locks stop working but sometimes the door locks won't be affected. Maybe the cold has something to do with it but I don't know. I have taken it to the dealer twice now and the first time I dropped it off not working. But I have a third party warranty from compass so they have to send out an adjuster to watch the truck not work. But by time he got there the truck dried out by being in their shop and it got rejected. The second time I brought it in to them it wasn't working for a whole week then the night before my appointment it started working again so I soaked the truck with a hose then took it through a car wash and I still couldn't get it to act up. But I took it in anyways. They messed around with it and got it to act up and scheduled the adjuster to come out like three days later. And by then it started to work again. So it got rejected again. I don't know what else to do. I asked them what they think it is but they said they were going to replace the door actuators. This doesn't make sense to me because those aren't effected by water by being inside the door itself. Any help with this problem would be very appreciated!
I had a reoccurring issue with my actuators as well. Sometimes the passenger side would work, sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes the drivers side would stop working, then passenger would work. I almost spent $200 on new door lock actuators until I found out I could replace the motors in the actuator for a whopping $6.00
This video and related post(s) on replacing just the door actuator motor is brilliant. Easy-peasy to follow. I just love these great insights and tutorials that pretty much BREAK-IT-OFF in the manufacturer's youknowhat. $6 fix for what the dealer (stealer???) says is hundreds. Brilliant.
Hey thanks for the reply guys. I would have them replace the actuators but it wouldn't be under my warranty because they are currently working. When I get the truck back today I will see if they are working. If they aren't i want to try and meter to see if when i tell the doors to unlock if the doors are receiving the signal. If it does then I will replace the motors like @tridacna suggested with the videos. If it's not the motors then I will try tracing wires for a short.
I have the same problem on my 2014. The deal has already replaced the driver side front door actuator and the rest are acting up now. I am going to record a video of them not working all the time and take it to the dealer.
Good idea. A buddy of mine had the touch screen go out on his vett occasionally and he managed to get a pic off it. They replaced it just by seeing the picture.
I wouuld love to know. My 2007 has 150k and no issues. My Sequoia has half the miles and 3 of 4 are out. I have replaced all motors as of today and the problem is still there. I can lock all doors but unlock only the drivers door This is too weird. Cn anyone help out with a schematic?
Know its been years ago since you posted. I am finally having that issues with my 2010 Tundra, Drivers door locks and unlocks, all others 3 will lock (with door switches and remote) but will not Unlock, via the remote or the door buttons. and i even had the actuators replaced so know that is all good. Did you ever solve that problem with yours..
I know this is fairly late but this is an annoying problem that we've dealt with over the last few years. We have had all 4 actuators replaced in our Tundra in the last 2 years. Luckily, we had purchased an extension on our warranty that lasts until October 2018. They have all been covered by our warranty. Just recently, the drivers side door began doing the same thing all over again. Total frustration. We're planning on getting it in to be replaced again. If we didnt' have the warranty, we would have been charged 300 + dollars each time. With as much as they are failing, replacing the motor each time noted in the videos in this post would be killing more time in my life than I want to deal with. We literally just replaced the rear passenger door actuator a month ago. We figured, "ok, all four have been replaced, we're good." Nope. Seriously considering trading it in for another truck.
I wonder if you plug is loose on the drivers door? My 2016 tundra is doing the exact same thing as yours. I have not yet tore into it though. Climbing across the center console is a pain in the ass.
Has anyone found a solution to this. I have the same problem. The locks work when it’s warm outside, but not when it’s cold. Which leads me to believe it’s a circuit board issue, like a component is shrunk and not contacting when it’s cold, but swells when warm. Would be nice to see a wiring schematic of the lock system to help troubleshoot the problem. Could be a simple relay.
I have a feeling it could be a relay issue. I have a 2016 Tundra that locks and unlocks all doors except the drivers. I just need to find out if each door uses it's own relay to confirm. Could it be a relay that isn't switching properly?? Stay tuned.
