Been reading the threads on DRL disable for our Tundras. Perhaps I'm dense, but when I remove the driver's side kick panel on my '15, the wiring does not at all look like this pic:
I'm looking at the wiring that's just under that plastic kick panel. Am I in the wrong place?? Furthermore, I don't see any markings on the connectors, such as "J29"?
Yes it's under the dash small grey wire In the j29 plug snip it and it should disable the just the dtrl not the flashers or signals. If u have the led dtrl in the lower part of the headlight there is a different type procedure.
I don't know how long you have had your truck, but if you pay attention to the light socket you will know. Since the lights are constantly on, it tends to melt the socket. Ive experience this on my 2010 and 2011 tundras.
The wire below the wire that you indicated is white. Has to be one of the two above the white wire with the black stripe. Thanks for your help btw sir!
Thanks for the confirmation!!
Because I have DRL LED's in my grill and don't need (or care for) the amber DRLs to be on at all.
The wire that cut was the one immediately above the white wire with the black stripe in the pic that posted earlier and it worked!!!! Good deal, thanks for the help folks!!!!
I tried using some of my tools for removing wires from plugs for computers, my long time hobby (pic below) :nerd: , and was not able to get that wire out of the plug. I tried for a good 1 to 2 hours too. I snipped the wire finally because I didn't wan to risk damaging the plug. I just gave myself enough room on either side of the wire to put an inline splice if I chose wrong or if in the future I want to reconnect it (or put in a switch possibly, still mulling that over). I really wish that I could have gotten the wire out of the plug though that was my original plan as I really don't like cutting wires on anything if I don't have to.
So, what the procedure for the 1794 dtrl headlight.

Platinuma and 1794 have a different procedure. Do not cut that grey wire. I'm almost certain you have to unplug the purple wire on back of the turn signal bulb but not 100%
Instead of hacking up and wires or messing up the connectors, just get the non drl flasher relay. They are only about 50 bucks
Part number 81980-0C020
Should fit 07 to 16. Put one in my 11 tundra then again in my 16 tundra. No cut wires, no drl, and signals all work.
someone sent me a PM asking about the changing flasher relay. i could not reply since that persons box was full but i figured others might want to know too. if you changed to the flasher relay that i posted, then is will get rid of the amber drl. im not sure what it does to the models with the led drl. i dont know if its wired from something other than the flasher relay.
The DRL's are for safety purposes so that others can see you in not so great conditions (late in the evening, coming around a curve, etc..). The Amber is just a Toyota thing unless you have the LED's. Why disable them? I know one poster said that it melts the harness but I've had mine for four years and 80,000 miles and no signs at all of the harness melting.
My truck (2015 1794) came with the 81980-0C020 flasher relay and the DRL stay on. I don't understand, why have a off switch and the DRL stay on. Is there any other way to cut off the DRL?
On the back of the drl bulb socket, there are 3 wires. I cut the purple one on both sides. Flashers work but no more amber drl. There's probably a better way to do this but if I need to I can always restore this to original.
