I have searched high and low and I cannot find a thread/post/solution to my issue. Like many tundra owners, I installed my own 7" screen and sound system. While in the middle of the process I managed to short the gear shift light bulb (center console DC) while trying to replace it with a LED and not removing the battery connections. After that I had the issue of dead HVAC light, gear shift light, and clock. Like most with this issue, I just re-ran the ground wire behind the gauge cluster and everything was good to go. Now about 2 year later the HVAC light, gear shift light, and clock will randomly start to flicker. I cant seem to find the root of this issue. It doesn't have anything to do with the truck while running or in motion as the lights will flicker with the truck in the driveway and just the lights turned on. This flicker doesn't have any kind of rhythm or pattern to it. It very random and will sometimes flicker on and off real fast, and sometimes the light will stay on/off for minutes at a time. It honestly makes my truck unbearable to drive at night.
Could you have pinched a wire while doing the install? That's what it seems like is Goin on. I would suggest looking back there and seeing if you can find any problem wires and splice a new piece in
I replaced the small light under the shifter from factory to LED. While doing so I shorted he ground out in the back of the gauge cluster. I replaced the ground wire and like I said it worked fine for a while but gradually started getting worse and worse.
not sure what shorted the ground out means? ground is ground, do you mean you shorted the power to the ground? if you were working in the console how did you short the gauge cluster? sorry just need as much info as possible to help.
