I finally got my LED footwell lights installed over the weekend. I used one of the 74 adapters from VLED and a roll of 5050 LED's off eBay. I think it turned out pretty good. I am thinking about using the remains of the roll of LED's for bed lights or lights under the steps when the truck is unlocked. I haven't decided yet.
looks awesome, how did you wire the passenger and rear ?? I purchased the kit from VLEDS and can't figure out the passenger side...hadn't taught of doing the rears but that looks awesome
That's just what I was planning to do in my CrewMax. Did you power all off the one footwell adaptor, wires under the carpet? If you are happy with the ebay lights, got a link to the ones you bought?
I bought a 74 adapters and then de-soldered the original connecter and then soldered one of the 2-wire connecters to it. I then put connectors on each end of my LED strips. I used strips that had 12 LED's per strip. On the driver side front I put two connectors on one end of the LED strip. One goes to the 74 adapter and the other goes to the connector for the driver side back seat lights. On the other end of the drive side front LED I put another 2-wire connecter and ran a wire behind the console to the passenger side front LED. The passenger side back LED connects to the passenger front LED via another 2-wire connector. All LED’s have connecters on them and can be removed at any time. If one of the LED’s burn out all I have to do is cut another 12 LED strip and solder two connecters on it and connect it up.

Got everything together today to do this. My 14 is going to the dealer tomorrow, so I decided to use my son's 2000 as a test mule. Thanks to the OP for the idea and links. Thought I'd post pics of the finished wiring to help visualize the set up. Used the connectors, solder, and heat shrink to make it as close as I could to a factory look, and plug and play. Fun project. Already have request from my son's friends for their cars. Maybe there is money to be made selling kits. I'll post installed pick later, he's out with the truck now. Thanks again OP for the hints.
Where did you run the wiring for the rear seats so that it isn't seen? Great work, thank you for the write up! Going to order the supplies for the footwells and also hook them into some nerf bar lighting as well.
I was thinking of putting a Y at the 74 and running three lights off each, one for the front footwell, rear footwell, and nerf bar for each side.
OK, I know stupid question, but I've never worked with these before. Are all of these rolls of LEDs on eBay cuttable every 3 LEDs? Then do you just solder on new wire to them?
Most of them are cuttable. The only problem that I had was there were some places that had 6 LED's together from where they connected the LED's strips together when they were making them.
Well, damn you, see what you started!? I just got a "You won" email from ebay on a roll of LEDs. Now I HAVE to do this. Also have bids on the connectors and wire. Hope I can figure out how to solder the leads to the strips, but it can't be that hard even for an idiot like me. Thanks for the links, gave me the push I needed to go ahead with a project I've been wanting to do.
The soldering part isn't that bad. Just remember to solder the right connectors on the right ends. The LED strips you just cut them and then take a razor blade and cut the clear protective coating and peel it off. I used electrical tape to cover the ends once I soldered the connectors on.
I bought the footwell kit from VLED's in blue and then added blue LED's from AGT in the map/courtesy lights, turned out great. Color matches perfect and is plenty bright enough. Couple of crappy pics attached (hard to get good pics at night).

i ordered this kit from VLEDS, and installed, very very high quality bars for lights, super bright, also the adapter was slick and thy supplied a kit of three different wires for shortening or lengthening the wire required from passenger side, they also had a double adapter so not a splice was needed
The kit is set up when u order as they tell u what u need for your truck, i ordered and also had a code for 10% off, the shipping was 5.00 to Canada and the whole order was under 20.00
Excellent price for the product received
Will order rear lights now with everything from first kit, except adapter, looking for bulbs for map lights and courtesy light if anyone has a spurce
I've got hte same question for my 2011. The light in the footwell and the light on the bottom of the rearview mirror both died, and I'll be damned if I can figure out what fuse blew.

Did the Gen 1 today. Turned out nice! Only problem I had was the double sided tape on my strips didn't hold well, even after cleaning everything with alcohol. Used a bit of contact cement.
This turned out pretty cool, and I might have to try this eventually. I've been debating on switching the interior bulbs for LED for a few weeks and finally pulled the trigger last night. I couldn't pay $80 or so for a set from VLED's, but I found some on Amazon for $12 shipped to my house. Now I know they probably aren't as good of quality, but about 90% of the reviews were good, and had positive thoughts on them. I also figured, if I don't like them, I'm only out $12. I'm not sure if my kit comes with the footwell bulb on the drivers side or not, so this definitely might be in the making for me! Awesome write ups guys.
You'll like the Amazon ones. I think 90% of the people here used them. Between that kit and some other cheap ones from eBay, I have them in all 3 of my vehicles. It's been 6 months so far, and all still work well.
Yea I think I like the option of being able to replace them are take them out, etc. I can't solder haha but I have a friend who is very "gadgety" with electronics and stuff like this haha. I already told him if I decide to do it, he'll be getting a call.
Looked on vled site for a #74 connector that I can Y out from the foot well light. If I could find a 74 single in double out connector I could wire the lights real quick. Does anyone have something like this ? Thanks guys.
I haven't seen one, might have to bust out the soldering iron and fab something. On the set I made for my son's Tundra, I didn't even have a #74 adapter. I just cut the base off a #74 LED bulb and soldered the wires to that base.
Well just replaced all of the interior lights in my truck with the ones I ordered from Amazon...all white LED's. They do have a faint blue tint, but nothing bad. It's too bright outside still for me to tell how well I will like them or if they will be brighter...I hope at least they are a good bit brighter.
The only ones I had trouble with were the dome lights, and I ended up having to bend the clips a little to make them tighter. Not sure if I need to tweak them a little more, but to get the bulbs to work, I couldn't push them in all the way. The bulbs came on almost as soon as I touched them to the connectors, but if I pushed them all the way in, they would cut off. Right now they seem to be about half way in and fitting fairly well. Any cause for concern???
I guess time will tell how well they hold up in the dome light with hitting bumps, etc. I may end up having to make the connectors even tighter to fit it better.
I think they will be fine. You can always tweak it if the get loose. I did just have one that a few of the SMDs went out and therefore it's not as bright anymore. No big deal, they are so cheap and I still have a couple left over from the kit.
Yea, this kit came with 10 bulbs...8 of the same ones, for the doors, map, dome...and then 2 other small ones. I used one to go under the dash on the driver side, but my passenger side doesn't have a bulb. I only have 1 small one left over. Would be nice if the passenger side had one as well!
Yea I saw the regular VLED strips online and thought about ordering one. Those come already wired and instead of a bulb, it has an adapter that plugs into that socket right?
I looked in the back of mine at the bottom of the front seats, but I don't really know where I would mount them. Are y'all just sticking that tape on the actual carpet of the bottom of the seat? My seats don't really have anything hard to mount them to. The base of the seat is hard, but has the carpet covering it.
The Vleds are probably easier, but making them is cheaper, more customizable, and fun. Also the way I and the OP made them, they also plug in and have OEM type connectors.
I have yet to do these for my 14, so I'll figure out the mounting for under the seats then. Might use some Velcro. On the ones for my sons 2000, I found the double sided tape that came on the LEDs was not strong enough, so I used some contact cement and it worked great. Also on his seats, the metal frame is exposed, so I didn't have to deal with carpet and just used the cement.
I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver some genuine 3M tape I ordered to do the ones for the 2014. I wasn't ready to put contact cement on my brand new truck.
All I used to hold them on my '14 was small zip ties on each end under the dash and on the back seats I just took a small awl and punched a small whole in the flap of carpet the goes under the seat and zip tied each end.
I didn't think about the velcro, but yea, I'm not using the cement stuff haha. I'm going to see how these go first, but might look into the connectors. My friend is good with all that wiring and stuff, so I'll let him look as well if I decide to haha. I don't really need them in the back, I just think it would feel more "custom" if I ran them for all the seats when they turned on instead of just the front. If I decide to do them, not sure if I want to go with the white to match these, or maybe the blue or amber. I'll see how bright these turn out to be at night. If these are bright, not sure I want anything extremely bright in the floors as well.
The mod looks nice, and with the connectors, I guess you could literally put 2 or 3 color LEDs in each area and just switch the connectors to the color that matches your mood that night....anyway, I'm just subscribing so I can get back to this mod in a few weeks.
Maybe I missed this information, but I've read the whole thread twice, where did you get your power source from? I have LED strips waiting to go in, and I've crawled all under both sides of the dash and I can't find a decent power source without, going the easy (and ugly) route of running power from the fuse box.
Can you give me some insight on your power source? I think there is a ground on the driver side.
Is there anyway to have the ability to leave the foot well LED's on all the time at night for example, I have gotten so many comments on them already, and think they would really look nice at night while driving, especially when i get back done.
I realize there is no switch in the truck lighting to leave one except drive with door open on the Highway lol, but just checking to see how hard it would be to make them come on with either a switch or fool that part on the door switch
Many Thx
