Question on cleaning Weathertech mats

I have brand new weathertech mats in my tundra and just got done hauling a bunch of kids around for a flyfishing class I helped with these past two weeks. The dirt that they tracked in was caught in the mats but after cleaning with soap and water they still look bad. Its like the dirt is ground in. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that they are light grey. Maybe that has something to do with it. Any suggestions????

Are the weathertech mats similar to the Husky mats? If so after a weekend of off-roading, or camping I hose mine down with a power sprayer and some warm soapy water. That always seems to do the trick.

Maybe try a cleaner too (409)?

I use a little dish soap water , and a nylon brush then rinse them off and spray a little #303 protectant on them .

I have Weathertechs in my CM. They're easy to wash, but they will take on a "worn" plastic look. I usually use a scrub brush to thoroughly clean them. Car detergent or a little "Bleach White" will do the job. To refresh that new look, after washing them, I use 303 Protectant. Or you can use Armor All. I've found Armor All to be more slippery. Either one will give your mats that new fresh look - at least until you dirty them again! The Weathertechs are by far the best!

The best thing for this I found out one day when I was trying to get one of my dirt rc cars cleaned up and it worked awesome so now I use it for everything muddy. Go to advance auto walmart or where ever and get the cheapest foaming glass cleaner in an aerosol can that you can buy doesn't matter on brand just spray it on and it just lifts the mud up and you can just wipe it off with a rag. I usually get the glass cleaner from advance when they put on sale buy one get one free. I stock quite a bit usually around 10 cans or so. Also remeber I live in the south and the clay stains everything if you don't get it up.

Thanks for the ideas. It seems to be the staining that is giving me fits. Like the clay topsecrettsi was talking about. I will have to try that and the brush now that I am done hauling them around.

Yeah the clay sucks around hear. The foaming glass cleaner really seams to lift the mud out of the pores. I also use glass cleaner for paint cleaning between cleanings i might be stripping some of the wax but I've waxed it four times since I bought last august so it can't hurt too much. I really don't have the time it takes to dry a truck this size sucks and the paint seams to spot easy.

No-Touch tire cleaner works wonders for plastic and vinyl.
I use it a lot on interiors, especially the el-cheapo rubber floor mats.

I tried the window cleaner and it worked pretty good but then gave it a shot with Simple Green and a scrubbrush. Worked the best! The scrubbing seemed to get all the dirt out of the pores of the mats. Also if you use the Mr. Clean sytem to clean the outside of the truck -- Especially the no spot rinse - it drys pretty much by itself and as long as the filter is good - NO SPOTTING! I've had good luck with it so far.
