I think that's possible, a 6.5' bed on a CM. It would probably have to be built on the DC 8' bed frame. The problem with that might be super bed bounce! That could be the reason why they are not producing the Tundras that way. Who knows?

Depend what you're gonna use the truck for. I'm the shortest of all my friend(6 ft) and they tell me the back has plenty of room. Not CRAZY ROOM like the crew max but definitely more than than a Dodge Quad Cab. I personally went with the cloth seats because they have more cushion which make them more comfortable.

Dez I use my tailgate for anything I need. If it cracks then it cracks and Toyota has an issue with me. I'm not going to let the worries get the best of me. The only part that gives a little is the metal you take off to put your reverse camera through. There is no support there. I'm sure my riding mower could've caused an issue but it didn't. I gave up my 71 chopped Honda 350 when I first got married. Grandma dang near took me out. Had 3 very good friends that rode with me got killed by idiots not watching and a drunk driver running over him. Tried everything I could to get that car off him but he was dead on the spot. So I gave it up not to go back.

Im still at odds. I thought I was set on the crewmax but then I looked at some pics on here and I changed my mind to te double cab. GEESH.......I dont know which I will get but Im set on the color at least and the engine (5.7 of course) so I will drive both and spend some time in the backseats...If the double cab has the same room of my crewcab Silverado that might swing my mind into the double cab. Its a good problem to have and my wife likes them both. I need to find the measurments for both and compare them I guess!

DC definately has more room than a GM extended can and just a little less room than the GM crew cab. Ive owned both

I do think the reguler cabs look good but I need the room. I keep all my work gear in my truck and we have a little one on the way. Not sure the DC would do if it has a bit less room than my crew cab Silverado. Will still check it out though. I wish the CM had about another 8-12in of bed room.

I have had five Chevy extended cab 6.5' beds in a row. I was pleasantly surprised at how much more comfortable and useable the rear seat was in the Tundra double cab vs. the Chevy. The Chevy does not have acceptable leg room or seating comfort for adults and is even marginal for children, especially if there are car seats involved.

The Tundra Double Cab is acceptable for adults, children and even car seats and you do not have to sacrifice bed space, which for me was a huge plus.

If you use the passenger capacity more than the cargo capacity, the Crew Max is certainly more comfortable. However, if you like or need the added cargo capacity of the Double Cab, you would not have to appologize if you had passengers ride in the back seat.

For me the choice for the Double Cab was easy and a very nice compromise between the poor rear seat and rear seat space of the domestic full size trucks and the Crew Max that ate into my bed space too much.

I just need to get into a DC and check it out. I just hate dealing with car salesman. The last time I was on a car lot it was closed, as planned, and I checked every door I could. Only found one open on a Tacoma though! I will get one of the two, just is gonna take a little time.

Well I had a similar dilemma when looking to buy one of these trucks. I loved the spacious crew max and loved the sporty look of the double cab. In the end I rationalized by asking myself how many times I would be riding in the back of MY truck, and how many times I would carry passengers that would require the extra room. Well it was maybe once or twice a year and my passengers can put up with lesser room. Plus the bigger bed is more useful than the smaller one.

Yeah, Im in the same boat you are. The space in the CM is just so impressive. But, not many people will ride in the back of my truck either. However, when they do, it would be nice to hear them say "wow" all this room in a Toyota. I checked the specs and the DC has 2in less leg room than my Silverado Crew Cab.
