Checked My Cabin Air Filter

I decided to check my cabin air filters today. It has been a couple weeks shy of a year and 10k miles.
Besides the leaves, the pleats were fairly black, but not as bad as others I have had.
Time to buy a new filter the next time I go to town.

For comparison, this is what my Titan cabin filters looked like with the same mileage. Besides the pleats being full of dirt/crap, the pleats had started to rot away.

The filter is located behind the glove box. The owners manual tell you how to change/check the filter. It literally takes less than a minute.

Is that a paper element filter? Can it be cleaned or should you just change it?

K&N should make a replacement!!!

I live in rather dirty environment, we have 35 miles of dirt roads on the ranch.
50% of my total miles are on dirt roads. I have 10k on the Tundra and over 3k miles are in 4WD, so most folks probably won't get their filters that dirty. When I get a new filter I will take apart the old one and take pictures of the black pleats.
The reason I looked was because the leaves were rattling around. On the Titan, the output from my vents dropped by 50% or more because of the clogged filters. The drop in output was gradual, so I didn't really notice until it got hot out and I could not get the cabin cool.

It is a paper element and if you are careful, you could clean them but they will be fragile.
As far as after market, they should be available, although I haven't looked for any for the Tundra.
On the Titan for example, it used the same filters as all other Nissan models, so they were avaialbe at NAPA for $10 less or so than what NIssan sold them for.
There were also permenant, lifetime, washable filters available in plain or in an activated charcoal version. These were about the same price as what the dealer wants for one of theirs.
I would expect that these filters would be available for the Tundra as I expect that these filters are used in Toyota's other models.

I could go soooo many ways with this one, but I'll leave it alone.

I live in a small town in Idaho and it gets quite dusty here in the summer months so I guess I'll have to look at that filter at the end of this summer and see what its like as to how often I will have to replace it. Thanks for the post.

This is a picture of the filter sort of turned inside out. I knocked all the loose dust out before I took the picture. When I replaced the filter with new one, I noticed an immediate increase in air flow from the vents.
