Overhead Compartments?

Is it true that you guys can carry it pretty much anywhere as long as it is visable?

Within the vehicle? Depends on how you interpret the statute. Handguns must be concealed within the vehicle, but long guns may or may not be concealed, depending on the interpretation. Perfectly legal to drive around with a loaded rifle/shotgun visible within the cab, though. My prior job had me driving in a lot of undeveloped areas and I always had a loaded rifle sitting on the passenger seat to deal with coyotes, snakes and other assorted vermin that I regularly encountered. Got pulled over several times and the officers rarely even asked about the gun.

Texas laws also allow you to carry a long gun in most public areas as long as it is NOT concealed. However, this isn't advisable in most places. You can still be tagged for disturbing the peace (or similar charge) if someone complains about it...and around here, someone WILL complain about it if you're walking down the street with a shotgun slung over your shoulder.

I wonder what the statistics are like between CA and TX as far as car jackings go. YOu would think that a possible car jacker might think twice if he knows the person he's about to jack might be packin heat. California is such a pussy state.

As long as this is about the overhead storage compartments. I just purchased an 05 Tundra Double Cab and was thinking of using the overhead flip down compartment to install my Garmin nuvi 350. Anyone had any experience doing this? Can power be tapped into the lights or compass that are in that overhead also?
Be easy I am new at this. Been driving a T100 for the last 11 years.

I don't see why that couldn't be done. Like you said, just tap into the light power. The only thing I would consider is the viewing angle from the driver seat. Unless it's all the way in the front compartment by the windshield, you might have issues looking at the screen.

From what I understand, In California your gun has to be locked with either a cable lock or locked in a case. The ammo must be seperate from the gun as well. And technically you can only "transport" the gun. Meaning you are only allowed to take it to the range, or another destination. You aren't allowed to keep the gun in your vehicle. That is unless you have a carry permit, which if you ask anyone who has tried to get one, Good luck. They are almost impossible to get.

Gun Laws are awful in California! Which makes it very difficult to protect yourself form the criminals that keep them in there waistband. I would feel ALOT safer if I could carry a loaded gun in my center console.

Unless Syber the monitor is on a swivel to turn it to you. Unfortunately I have 2 compartments and the first is for the reverse camera monitor and the second just a waist of time. Yes I have the sunroof/moonroof.

California laws like those are why I won't spend one dime of my hard earned money in the Republic of Kalifornia. Believe me I would love to go there and enjoy the scenery and all the different sights it has to offer but I just can't bring myself to go knowing the government there thinks they are the supreme ruler of all the inhabitants of the state, lol! Plus, why would I go somewhere where I can't defend myself? Oh wait, the police will be there to escort me and give me police protection wherever I may be. What a joke! Of course these are just my opinions.

Hmm good idea. I will have to see if mine fits. I had a hidden compartment in my RAM I used to use for it, and the Tundra don't have this. Thanks for the tip.

Same laws here. They say that your vehicle is an exstension of your home so you can have a concealed loaded weapon in your vehicle. You can also open carry a loaded firearm on the streets here. To carry concealed outside of the home or vehicle you need a CWP..concealed weapons permit. I have a CWP so I carry pretty much all the time.

Has anyone painted their overhead compartment>? I have the Red Rock Leather/Black interior, and since my overhead monitor/dvd player is black, I was thinking about painting it to match, looks kinda tacky to me with the tan compartment and a black monitor right next to it. What do you guys think? would it look good, what kind of paint should I use, I want it to match as much as possible to the rest of the black.

You need to get a good adhesion promoter, and probably automotive grade paint, I would pay someone to do it like a auto body and paint shop, they do alot of plastic work believe it or not.
