Custom Shift Knob

Here is the shifter I made out of Spalted Maple, it turned out sitting taller than I wanted due to I was unaware of how far into the shift handle the rod went (it's goes almost to the top of the stock knob). But it's not bad, instead of my hand resting on top of the knob while driving now I just kind of hold onto it. In case you don't know Spalting of wood occurs when the tree dies and falls to the ground, with the right humidity fungi start the decaying process. If you catch it soon enough while the wood is still solid and let it dry it looks great however wait too long and it's too soft to carve. There is another picture in my gallery of a different angle.

Nice - That looks really cool!

Just curious, how long does it take to carve one of those?

That is beautiful! And it won't burn your hand on hot summer days.

It's hard to say because it took so long! Seriously it did take a long time I kind of was designing it as I went and I didn't expect the shift post to be so long which caused me some problems. Quessing I would say 20 hours.

Thanks for the complement, if I was going to make another one I would sell this one and make me a new one but it's a lot of time that I don't have right now..
