Good luck

No Tundra yet, just lurkin' around. Bought a FJ 4X4 last summer, same problem, interior plastic scratches/scuffs when a gnat lands on it. Many folks on the FJ forum experienced same. Just love your truck, even with the warts. Want a double cab 4x4 tundra soon. Like what I've seen on this forum.

Hate to say this, but could it be because these are American made some escaped "Ford" bean counter is cutting corners. I don't know guys but there seems to be, to me anyway, to many seemingly small details being missed on an otherwise great truck. For Toyota, one of the best companies out there for quality, hell they built thier rep on quality. Is that not one of the reasons we bought the truck, I did, well that and the drive line. Great truck to bad the sheet metal (bed, tailgate), paint (scatching on sight), and interior finish (paint scuffing) mar this package. I don't say this to flame, I enjoy my truck, but I do hope someone at the company reads this stuff.

I have no Tundra yet... Now I have second thoughts!
I just became a member of this site to look the Tundra over and I now see
two (2) things that may stop me from buying one.

1) The bouncing problem on some cement highways.
2) Scratch problems.

How many more problems guys? I don't want to spent 30 some K and end up
kicking myself in the rear for leaving American made junk.

I'm 60 years old. My next major truck buy might be my last. I never thought
I'd ever look at anything other than American made BUT in the last 10 or so
years nothing but cheap made garbage is being forced on us. Is Toyota going
to do the same as the American big three doing?

What else will I find on this FINE site that will change my mind about buying
any Toyota product?

As far as the interior mine has held up great. I use a hand swifter and cleaner wipes for those rub marks. They come right off. I use meguiars leather wipes for the leather. 19,000 miles and my leather is still top notch with no cracks or fading. Not like the 06 Silverado I had. Radioman you don't have to worry about the interior of a Crewmax Limited. Only thing Toyota needs to do is to use real guages, for the heated seats to have the heated part on the back also besides the seat, and factory install Xm or Sirius. Please not these aftermarket crap.

I found that using the leather cleaner wipes on my dash helps out with the scuffs.
It is not shiny like using armor all.
I really don't know how this material for the dash made it pass production. My truck was only a few hours old when I wiped it with my hand, and left behind was a really funky looking scuff mark. It almost looked like the dash scraped my skin off and left it on the dash.
After using the leather wipes, no more problems.

Yes the back of my truck bounces/jiggles on certain road anomalies but that is the way this truck was designed. The frame is designed to flex. My 2007Tacoma (traded for Tundra) has the same frame and the rear of that truck did the same bounce over bumps. When the truck has a load in it it rides better and does not bounce/jiggle.

As far as the interior goes on the Tundra, I think it has the cheapest materials from Toyota I have seen. I have had 5 Toyotas in the past. It is cheaper feeling and seems to be more prone to scratches than even the Tacoma. But it is what it is (Tundra grade, no Limited or SR5 here) and I still love the truck.

As far as the Big 3 I don't agree with your take on them making cheap garbage. Yeah the Dodge doesn't have a lot going for it but they are redesigning it in '09 and it looks like it will be a sweet truck. The Ford has probably the best chassis out there but the engine is old and out dated and it's hard to work on. In my opinion the Chevy is a great truck and would be the truck I would have gotten if I could have found one the way I wanted it. It's easy to work on and solid.

The resale is lower on the domestic trucks but that sounds like that would not matter to you since you plan on keeping it. Go drive a Chevy and let us know what you think. It is a nice truck. IMO.
