Wimped Out

I've been looking at getting a Tundra for awhile now. I love the way they look and you get more truck for your money than with a Tacoma. Yesterday, a dealer got one in stock exactly like I wanted it optioned. I went down there and test drove it. I was completely uncomfortable driving the Tundra because it was so big. I thought I was going to hit everything I passed by. When I got back to the dealership, it was very awkward trying to park it in a space.

I'm driving a RAV4 right now and that might be the reason I felt the Tundra was just too big.

Did anyone else feel this way when they first drove a Tundra and did it get any easier the longer you owned it?

That is so easily overcome just by driving it. Have you never grown accustomed to something which felt odd the first time or two? Man, Nothing to fear but, fear itself.

If you're comfortable in a RAV4 maybe you should stick with a Tacoma if you want a truck.
The Tundra isn't going to get any smaller.
It IS a big truck.

If you sometimes feel cramped in your RAV4, then the Tundra may be for you.
I couldn't be comfortable in a Tacoma, it is too small, but I'm 6'1" and 240#.

Everything depends on your needs, wants, family size, use, and expectations of said vehicle.

As others stated one can usually adapt to whatever they drive.
But if the mindset is stuck in your head that the truck is too big from the beginning, it may not work for you.

Good luck...

I drove a gx470 before the tundra and had the same feeling despite coming from a near full size SUV. No wonder the tundra feels like a tank when coming from a RAV4. I'd say a week or two behind the wheel and it will feel normal. The only time you'll be reminded it's huge is in a tight parking lot or garage.

I agree on the backing in unless you have an empty space to "borrow" from as you pull into a spot.

Tundras have a pretty good turn radius compared to other full size trucks. Maybe find one with front and rear parking sensors (sonar).

I remember first time test driving my tundra I felt exactly the same way. I was considering not buying it for the same reason.
Within a month after the purchase I was completely used to it. I live in LA where streets are tight and parking is worse. Still no issues to this day.
Just do it dude you won't regret it. American trucks drive like muscle cars while Japanese drive like tuners.

My woman still hasn't driven my truck but has no problem with a taco. For me it wasn't by far the biggest thing I've driven. If you don't need a tundra get the taco, if you keep it a long time you will be surprised how much it is still worth.

It does if you find your woman standing behind you with an angry look on her face and a shocked look on the one under you.
