Define "improve" the mpg. There are a few threads that discuss what people average on they trucks. The only real way to "improve" mpg is to baby the gas peddle, oh and remove the spare tire. But I haven't found anyone that bought a Tundra for its great gas mileage.
If you leave the truck stock, (which is very hard to do ) mpg is decent. I average 10-11 combined on good days and that with 7 inch lift and 35s but that is about 80% city mpg. I have a 14 tundra 4x4, mpg should be the same from 2007 - current.
I bought my 2010 DC 4X4 new. 74,400 miles on it now.''MPG affecting mods'' are LT 285-65-18 Michelin LTX AT2's, wheel to wheel nerfbars, modified valve body with shift-kit,BA 10" Exhaust. I choose which gears to be in at what speed for how long.MPG's are self-calculated and holding pretty steady at 15/16.I had a 06 Tundra DC 4X4 before this 2010,the comparable mileage between the two is within 2 mpg's.......I'LL TAKE IT!
I have 2 2014's
One dc, 8' bed. Lifted 3" and 34"s, b.a. budget exhaust
One single cab stock tires and 2" lift
Both have the same rack
Both get the same mpg with me or my employee driving.
I don't have a calibrated Speedo on my truck the double cab. It is about 3 mph off.
I get the same mpgs as the single cab
According to computer . I don't hand calculate, I don't really care.
Both are 4x4 and have the 5.7
I understand the wind resistance, with the racks is the main reason for my mpg.
Even before the rack I was lucky to get 15.7 all highway at around 70 mph
I have been averaging 16-17 in my 2017 CrewMax Trd Pro. Worst was 13ish really getting on it. Best was 17.8 babying it all back roads. Mine is all stock. Has the Trd exhaust and airfilter from factory. And a hard flip tonneau.
It all depends on driving style and conditions. My '07 has averaged 16.5 for all of the 10 years that I have had it. It averages about 16 in the winter and 17 in the summer partly due to "winter" gas.
2in lift, lt275/70r18 at tires, 250 lb toolbox in back, steps, rollx bed cover, helper springs, averages 15 mpg city/hwy 50/50. Add a generator, 4 jerry cans full of fuel, hitch, towing a 7k lb tt and it goes down to 9.5 mpg. Lowest I've seen while towing was in Kansas and Oklahoma heading southwest with a 40-50 mph headwind and crosswind. Averaged 6.5 mpg. Basically 35 miles per quarter tank of fuel.
