Does the 5.7 have displacement managment?
Or whatever its called when it cuts down the cylinders on the highway, does it have it?
I can't seem to find an answer, maybe I'm not using the right search terms.

No Displacement Managment on the Tundra!!
If you wanna play with the big boys you gotta pay! No way around it. The DM system is a Joke! Dodge offers it because the Hemi just guzzles more fuel than ANY other 5.7L and even a 6.0L's. So Dodge had to do something to make the people "feel" good. The Big V8 would shut down and run on 4cyl.....Ha ha ha, thats a joke. If a 4cyl could pull a full size Pick up truck down the highway.......Then, why would they use V-8's??? Serious, talk to dodge owners and let them tell ya how much $$'s has the DM saved them???? If you looking for fuel savings....get yourself a taco with the 4cyl and call it a day.

just asking, dang
a fired was describing the way it works on the chevy, and basically you never notice and it doesn't come on very often and as soon as you touch the gas (while on cruise control) or hit a hill it kicks on all 8. He says you don't notice it on the Chevy. don't know about dodge, last I heard they weren't putting it on the hemi

It does not have DM...Toyota uses VVTi in their engines to save gas...if you google vvti you'll get a lot of info on it.

Mines has a displacement. Everytime I hammer the pedal down it diplaces the gas guage to the left.

I drove a rental 2008 Suburban for a week that had the displacement on demand system. It blew. Riding on the highway, you could feel it constantly kicking in and out. In 4-cyl mode, it couldn't hold 65mph. This was driving across Illinois on flat interstate. Seemed kind of useless to me. I look at it this way----25-30 years ago, if you could get 10 mpg from a 200hp v-8, it was considered ok. A 300 hp v-8 was 5 mpg. Now we can get 15-20 mpg from a 381hp v-8. I'm pretty happy with that. |
