Towing experience without electric brakes.

Last night I got a lead on some square bails just 8 or so miles away, so I hooked up the flat bed trailer (a Texas Bragg trailer, without electric brakes) and headed out to collect 100 bails.
I figure I was hauling between 8,500 and 10,000 lbs fully loaded. Its the first time I have hauled a trailer so heavy without electric brakes. Electric brakes are worth every penny. Even with the Tundra's powerful brakes, it can take a while to stop. If you are looking for a trailer then spend the extra money to get electric brakes.

Yeah that looks like a heavy enough load to justify electric brakes. Surprising that trailer didn't have any.

I Was Just Thinking About Towing With No Brake Controller As Well ( 8k Lbs ) For Just 35 Miles To Get The Rig To Malibu For A Week Of Camping. Hate To Drill Holes Anywhere In The Truck To Mount The Controller. Can't Believe Toyota Doesn't Have A Built In Brake Controll Like Everyone Else....$hit All TheY Do Is Brag And Advertise Towing CAPABILITIES. Makes No sense !!!!

What trucks come with brake controllers as OE? I have 3 friends that recently bought 3 different trucks (within a year or so) and they all had to install controllers.

Trucks were: F-150, Silverado and Ram Heavy Duty...
The F-150 and Ram both had the OE towing packages.

No truck comes with a factory brake controller. Some dealers will install them as a package thing but they are not OEM.

Ford superduty trucks come with a built in brake controller in the dash, its part of the "tow command" system they have had them in their trucks for the last couple of years. more common on the automatics, you had to special order it with the 6spd.

Welp...I guess my friend had the one Ford truck that didn't have one. His F-150 is less than a year old. Maybe it's only on 3/4 ton +.

That's the catch? the diesel models are 3/4 ton trucks? That makes a difference than a 1/2 ton truck. I know both trucks I had 03 F-150 and 06 Silverado didn't have it and both had towing packages with them.
