any power loss? I'd imagine it would be pretty slow.

no disrespect intended, but thats plain not true. ive been a cop the last 10 years, and i am familiar with the fuel tank recall on 2002 and newer vic's. they were gasoline tanks, and they were getting punctured in rear enders, burning up a cop or two. the recall involved fitting a shield around the tank...i know because i had to give up my new copcar for 2 days and drive a junker.

come and drive my truck if you live close. you will be surprized and glad to discover thats not correct. gasoline is atomized to a vapor before injecting, replace that with 130 octane gas.....and what would be the diff?

I did some research on CNG powered vehicles a few years ago. If memory serves me correctly, there is about an 8% loss in power over gasoline.

8% is quite acceptable to me. bear in mind, theres two kindsa folk.....folk who need every ounce of power, who do performance mods, and are willing to pay the cost in fuel, then theres squirrels like me who would rather drive for 4c per mile, and push the pedal to make up for the possible 8% loss.

the folk worried about power are happy as they are, and can continue to pay their 5 bucks per gallon. me....i dont like supporting raghead terrorist sh8tbags. all cng is from american soil.
my gas budbet went from 300 per month, down to 45 ish for 2 vehicles.

there are downsides...cost of conversion, finding a fuel pump, and the dreaded loss of 8% power.
but dont forget the good stuff. you take one of these motors apart after 100,000 miles, they look like new. no carbon...nothing. the oil stays amber color, no carbon in it. instead of oil turning black in a week, it stays amber the whole time. the motors will go twice the distance of a gas motor. once a year, i am going to spin off my oil filter, throw on another one, and pour in a new quart of synthetic to bring the additives back up to snuff. even the outside of the motor and the engine bay stays clean.
the emissions are about as bad as the breath you exhale, and its way cheaper to run.

i can tell you why this has never been pushed hard......big oil companies arent exactly going to lobby automakers to put them out of bidniss.

the first cng car was done by benz for the 1939 world fair (think thats the date.)

lets face it, america has had cheap energy for years, who would want to deal with the slightest inconvenience when gas has always been cheap.
when i left england in '92, gas was about ten bucks a gal. here it was a buck.
the tide is turning......how long before we have 10 dollar gas?

I never even knew of this CNG in autos until about 3 days ago. Since then I have been looking around the web. Seems there are only 3 CNG stations in the state of florida. I did a spreadsheet comparing the cost of the initisal investment of $5000, $4.00 per gallon feul and 16 MPG in my 08 dc 5.7. It would take 18500 miles to compensate for the initial investment then all would be alot cheaper. I also assumed that CNG was .70 per gallon. At those figures it would cost around a nickel per mile if I were to fill up at the house each night. I drive about 45000 miles per year. This would pay for itself almost in 4 months. The problem now is there isn't natural gas in my neighborhood.

EXTREMELY INTERSTING

So limmey, what is a general cost basis for a system, is it $5k just for parts?

I like the fact that you have an extended range as well.

did mine for $3158. because im basically a squirrel. got the tank for free by doing a little wheeling and dealing.

kit was 3038 delivered, stainless line and fittings cost 120. add your tank to that....unless you can weasel one for free.......and thats your total.

mine will pay for itself within a year
