Sprayed rustproofing on rear axle

Well, after my first year with my Tundra, there is some rust on the rear axle. Particularly the rear diff housing, axle and springs. So I went out and bought some spray rustproofing and it really does a good job of coating everything. Its like a clear gel that coats the metal. It's supposed to dissolve rust and protect the metal. We'll see. I plan on spraying under the rockers and some of the front too.

Here are some pics after spraying the axle. I didn't think to take "before" pics, but you can clearly see the rust I have after 1 winter. Hopefully this stuff will help.

Some rust? I think I would have a heart attack if my truck had that much rust. Good thing I live in the South.

Okay... now you guys are scaring me!

I live near Toronto, Canada. Welcome to the north. Yeah, the rust worries me a bit. I know there's a big rust debate going on in the trouble forum, but I'm not sure what to think of this.

This truck is a lease so if it turns into a rust bucket, it goes bye-bye back to Toyota.

I think that's pretty typical for a Canadian truck that see's winter use. If you think that's bad, look at a vehicle that went through a maritime winter, it would be at least 3-4 times as rusty as your's.

I usually get under my vehicles once every couple of years and hit the complete undercarrige with a few spray cans of Tremclad or similar rust preventive paint.

Another good product to use for those of you concerned about rust underneath is Amsoil's Metal Protectant. Sprays on and drys to a waxy haze. I started to notice some rust - not near that in the picture above, so I purchased this spray and have been using it since. I will hit the whole undercarriage sometime in late October and I think it will do the job up through April.

Okay, so I just took these pics tonight. As you can see, the axle is not as wet as it was after I sprayed it. Still, it's not pretty.
