Question Transfer case issues?

OK,

So over the weekend, I get this rubbing in the front left side of my truck. No worries I think, I got the 5k mile service coming up, my dealer will fix it.

Long story short, they didn't get it right the first time (don't think they drove the truck after the oil change) and I took it back. Today, they tell me that Toyota engineers are coming down to the shop tomorrow to have a look at my ride before they replace the transfer case in the truck (truck's never seen dirt and has only been put into 4WD when launching/recovering my boat). They want to "verify" that there's no other problems.

2 questions:

Anyone ever have engineers come look at your truck before they replace defective parts?

Does this sound shady to anyone else? To me, it's either they have no F'ing clue how to fix my truck, or there's been reported cases of whatever's wrong with my rig and the engineers are going to verify another case before recalling a ton of vehicles.......thoughts?

I haven't heard of an transfer cases being replace sometimes parts can be defitive. Me I would not care who's coming as long as it gets fixed if you have to take them on a drive or go with them.

They're not sure what's hosed up to tell you the truth. But like the first guy that replied, I don't give a S#*T who they send down as long as they get it fixed correctly this time.

I'm more curious whether anyone else has heard of x-fer case issues and if it's a common thing.

I'm sure it was the transfer case now....they replaced it last night and the issues I was having are gone! So off I go with my new x-fer case and better-running truck! I'm really hoping that they got it right, because if the tailpipe on that thing was wet, I'd probably make love to it

and I am still confused on what issues you were having? What about the front left side? Throw me a bone here.

Bone tossed....

I had what seemed to be a rubbing on the front left area of the truck. Yes, I'm well aware that the x-fer case is bolted to the rear of the transmission, but that's what the issue was. I also as a high-pitched whine coming out of the truck when I let off the gas. That's now gone so I'm assuming that was an issue also. That whine had been there since I purchased the truck, I just thought it was the engine brake since the only time I heard it was when I let off the gas. I'll try to go get some pics of the x-fer case today. You can tell (new bolts, seal, etc) that it was replaced.

The high pitch whining sounds like an improperly assembled differential. I'd guess the engineers wanted to figure out if they had a production line issue or a supplier issue. They also probably hadn't heard of a xfer case making those sounds and wanted to know wtf. Since the new xfer case fixed the problem, I'm sure Toyota is dissecting the xfer case that came out of your truck already. Glad they got it fixed...very interesting.
