I used to sell Toyotas and bragged on how easy they were to work on. I haven't changed the oil yet (glad I read this thread) but I did change the sparkplugs to E3 s. THAT was an adventure for an amature! I'm sure having the right tools would make a difference, but dang!....

I just pay my $75 and get synthetic done at dealers....No mess at home or oil to get rid of.

With interest I have been reading this thread. Just bought a used 2007 a couple of weeks ago (from an individual). I didn't know of the oil change issue until reading about it here. I am 150 miles from the nearest dealer. Is it really that big of a pain in the rear? I've changed my own on GM vehicles. It's always a messy job. I'm wondering if this would be that much worse. I also have to consider the extra $75 I'll spend in gas getting to and from the dealer. Did I read that the oil change kit is only available at a dealer?

In essence, my question is what would you do about oil changes if you were in my position?

This oil change isn't too bad, just a lot of tricks. In this thread there is a link to a great DIY set of pictures. After you look at that and read my posts along with others contributions, it'll maybe take you 30 minutes. Second time you do it yourself, 20 minutes. Now you know what to look for.... Regards

BY THE WAY.... I got the filter kit from Walmart (Fram), the kit had the white plastic tool in addition to the filter and two gaskets.

Spare your truck and do not use Fram, please! The Toyota filter kit is only $6.50!

No kidding. I don't understand how that company is still in business. I've yet to see an independent test that didn't rank Fram dead last in filter quality and efficiency.

They've somehow been living off their name for decades. Perhaps they built a good filter a long time ago, but they've apparently forgotten how...or maybe they just don't care since they've got market share.

Thanks for the heads up on the Fram filters. I'll go get the Toyota filters.

$6.50 isn't a price too far to reach, sounds good to me.

Only one air dam finger and that's the center one. I just used a plastic tie wrap. The skid plate is a joke anyway. It's too thin to afford any protection from a rock. It's more of a splash guard. The first generation Tundra had a real skid plate. That sucker was heavy.
