I see that Chevy is trying to cash in on the fact that the Silverado has higher rated mpg. They even use an out of gas Tundra and "get in" from the tundra commercials... they're definitely targetting the Tundra customers. As much money as they have been losing maybe they ought to target something else... like quality.

All you have to do is drive the tundra. I test drove a GMC 1500 CCSB, I thought it was awesome and really pumped that it got pretty good mileage for a truck. That was until I drove the tundra.
I've lived and died for GM trucks my whole life. One day when we went to the Toyota dealer to drive a PRIUS for my wife I decided to drive a tundra to see if all the commercials were true. It blew my fricking mind that a truck could be that awesome factory stock. I couldn't believe how fast the truck was, so on the way home I drove another 1500 CCSB to make sure I wasn't dreaming. It felt like I was driving a wet rag compared to the tundra. Plus the damn thing gets just as good economy as the GMC/Chevy. I've spent the last two weeks trying to justify buying a tundra. The truck I have is perfectly fine but I can't stop thinking about how awesome that truck is. Relief from oil will come soon, we are going to get a kick in the ass for a while but it can't last. If it did our economy would flop on it's face before this fall. Plus you can't tell me that every tom, dick and harry isn't trying to pump crude as fast as they can at $120 + per barrel oil. They're own greed will deflate prices. Lastly to have a truck that can do everything that the tundra does and be able to average 15mpg + in town is a gift. My 6.0L GMC is 11.5 in town, I'm spending $1,200 more in fuel per year than you. Great posts with the economy, keep them coming. |

Anyone in this discussion consider the Taco? I've been holding out trying to decide what truck I'm going to get. I love the Tundra and can certainly use the size with a family of 5. I just keep thinking I might be better off with the Taco for now with gas prices so high.

Dont regret my Tundra at all. I came from an Envoy with a 5.3 and GM's displacement on demand that goes from a V8 to a 4 when not needed. Having that and being a midsized SUV it managed 11 city and 18 highway. The 5.7 CM I have now with only 1800 miles is already getting better city and matches the highway despite being a much bigger truck. Im sure it will get better when its broken in and if I can my foot out of it. Time for a roadtrip for some more miles on it.

I'm still on the fence, but I feel like I'm starting to tip towards a Tundra. |

If I absolutely had to buy a truck today it would be the tundra, without a doubt. Chevy, Ford, and GM are all great trucks, but the tundra is just that much better. What sells me on the tundra is how well the power train works together (motor, tranny, axle gearing, brakes). It's a 3/4 ton truck that drives and gets the economy of a 1/2 ton. And it runs like a beast off the showroom floor. I haven't bought one because it's an "I want it" and not an "I need it." I am super cheap, but I'm trying to find a way to make it work. My two choices are buy a DC tundra or supercharge my existing truck. I'm leaning towards the tundra right now. The tundra will cost a little more to get into, have better economy, be as fast as I need it to be, doesn't require 91 octane gas all the time, and should bever blow trannies or rear axles. Work is busy now for me so I'll decide this fall. Typically the best sales are then and people are the most motivated to sell. Good luck with your decision. P.S. Sorry to hijack the thread |

The gas has risen 50 cents per gallon since I bought my dbl cab tundra about 2 1/2 months ago, but I still love my truck. No regrets at all.
