I have always broke the engines in the way I was going to drive them. I have a 2000 Monte Carlo 3.8 with 195,000 hard miles on the engine with no problems. I also have only used non-synthetic valvoline from the time it was new. I change the oil every 3000 miles. Changing engine oil types or even brands I have always heard is not a good idea. Hope this helps!! This is how I am treating my 5.7 right now.

I agree 100% with Ultimate1 on this. I've always done the same thing with my Toyotas and get extremely high milage out of them with zero problems. Every 3000 miles with the same oil is the key.
