Unhappy Tundra Needs New Differential :(

Hey, Guys
Been hearing a humming noise from the rear end of my truck for the past week today i finally went to the dealer and had a road test with one of the service managers from a new dealership i am now using we took it on the road and set the cruise at 30 and could hear the noise loud and clear he thought it was a ring and pinion in the rear end exactly what i thought as well. We brought it into the shop one of the master techs looked at it and its the front differential making the humming noise so my 07 tundra dbl cab 4x4 4.7 with 15,000 will be getting a new differential

Yeah, that sucks, but don't feel bad... I had mine replaced too because of the same problem. The new diff is great and I don't have that annoying "wu wu wu wu" sound anymore along with the vibration in the steering wheel!

It sucks that it was bad to begin with though. I think Toyota may have had a bad batch of diffs or something. But once you get the new one in, you'll be good to go.

Just curious, when was your Tundra built? Mine is a March '07 Indiana build.

Mine's a 5.7L. But the front diffs are probably the same for all the trucks. I was so glad when I picked up my Tundra after getting the replacement diff. It was night and day difference driving it after.

She's going in to service tomorrow though for another hum/vibe. This time I think it has to do with the stock exhaust system (non TRD exhaust). In Park, it hums/vibrates the floor and steering at 1500 rpm. And that's where it usually sits at highway speed so it is rather annoying. It seems to be better at times, but I haven't figured out a pattern.

I keep reading about how quiet and smooth the Tundra is, but that hasn't been my experience so far...
