2007-trade or keep it

So as my first post, I'll give some back ground and ask a question.

2007 crewmax sr5 w/5.7, original owner, 136000 miles, paint/interior in excellent condition. Truck will be 10 years old in march 2017.

just spent close to 3k one year ago on new water pump, rotors, calipers, pads.
has about two years left in tires, or about 35k to go.
battery is 2.5 years old.
air pumps done at 98k, thankfully no limp mode, just dash lights and a warranty.

uses coolant slowly, even prior to water pump leak, assuming burning it as its not in the oil, but the truck runs great. about the overflow tanks worth per month or 1000 miles. hoses were replaced, no change. been going on since about 90k.
undercarriage and frame are rusty, more than it should be.

So, right now I get as a quick value up to 17500 when researching. 4wd, sr5,trd. I wouldn't trade for less than 17000. msrp was 37181, I paid 35000 before it hit the lot. too much, but no crewmaxes at the time, and I was in need of a truck. I got a paid rental while waiting the 3 weeks.

Crewmax is too much now, and since the rear seat no longer slides or reclines, I was thinking double cab sr5 with upgrade package, trd, 40800 msrp, invoice is 37500. I would only buy at 37000 plus the dumb doc fee of 395. So 37395-1000incentive=36395

I'm getting there.........if I dont trade it in now, I probably will keep it until its dead, maybe another 8 years. Just not sure if I want to take the chances on other things failing. Inevitable, but who can predict the rate of failure, or what.

So 36395-17000=19395 plus tax to go from 10 year old crew max to new 2016 dc. If it was not basically the same truck, I think I would be sold on new. I dont want the 2018 to be all new, because when I buy or if I buy the 2016, its for ten years again.

What would you do? Keep in mind, waiting until 2018, 2019,etc, means less trade in later and possible issues if kept.
thanks
joe

Personally I would keep it and see what 2018 brings.
If the 2018 refresh actually happens and you don't like it, get a leftover 2017 for a good price.

Seems like you don't get as much for your money now since you have to go to higher trims to get all the options and the rebates seem a lot lower from what I've seen.
I guess with lower rebates that might drive up resale....?

I'd worry about pushing that truck another year with that coolant loss. You don't know when whatever is causing the loss will get worse, could be a head gasket or a cracked or bad head and if either let's go your value will plummet.

I would sell it and get new. You've done well by having it that long and saving money. As far as waiting till 2018, when does that game end? What about 2019? If you like the new ones now get it. Proven trans and engine and the end of the year is a great time to buy.

2018 is when the stars align and Toyota releases the true 3rd gen that everyone's wanted since 2007.
It will happen, you just wait....and wait......

I was going to work on your problem but I haven't decided where to go for lunch today. After everyone chimes in on my major problem, I will tell you what to do.
So whats for lunch?

Asking a bunch of strangers who don't know you or your situation a question makes no sense. You aren't going to get any useful guidance.
Just ask your wife, she makes all the decisions anyways.

Sell outright...than buy a new one. Probably get more than trading it in. If it's got issue, you never know when it'll take a dump.

I'd get a new truck.
They are trying to get rid of 2016s, offering rebates and 0% interest.

If you think you're going to get $17000 for your truck, you better sell it yourself.
I don't think a dealer will come anywhere close to that on a trade-in.
You're not going get back the money you spent for repairs.

Good luck Bro..

I dont get why reclining rear seat is a dealbreaker, sure it's cool but I wonder how often people actually use it.

In my case it kept me in my truck for 3 more years. No so much for comfort, but for ease of adding subs. I'll be honest, I will now have 2 sub boxes I had built for my cm that won't fit the new one on order. They also got rid of a bunch of cubbies to put shit. Not a huge deal, but it all comes into play.

If the dealer didn't cause the issue I have, I would still be riding out my 2010.

So whats for lunch?

Just ask your wife, she makes all the decisions anyways.
Thank you for identifying yourself as the forum idiot, its good to get this type of info on my first posting.

Maybe you should have made up with your boyfriend before replying to my post, which was not a problem as you state, but a question looking for opinions. You seem very angry, I'm sorry he treats you like that. Does he call you names? Beat you? Too rough on you last night? If so, its ok, .........if you act like this at home, like you do on this forum, you deserve it. Don't worry, I;m sure you forcefully made up in between gags, or you will soon. There is help for angry people like you, don't let your boyfriend make the decisions for you buddy.

The only problem is, you obviously have serious problems. Last time I checked, this is a forum that people can post to, looking for answers or opinions. Do you need to try to control the forum since you have no control over your boyfriend? Sad

As for lunch, I'm thinking we are on a different diet. Remember, you are what you eat, and I'm sure you had your fill on lunch today. I could presume so much more, like you presumed about my wife making decisions, but if I made more presumptions about you, I may start to get inaccurate.

To everyone else, thank you for the responses.
