Here in a week ...

Well, after waiting a month now my new Tundra will finally be in next week! Yippee!!!! I know when I sit down with the finance guy he is going to ask me the usual 2 questions:

1) How about a extended warranty?
2) Do you want the paint/interior, etc protection plan?

In the past (im a old fart so I have bought a few new cars in the past) I have purchased both of these but never seemed to really use them. Figured I would make a post to see what your opinions are on both of these additional services.

Are they a good deal? Is it worth it? What do you think?

Thanks,

Depending on what the paint protection plan covers, I'd get it. If it covers even the smallest scratches, get it. The paint on the Tundra's is WEAK at best. Especially if you're getting a dark truck.

I wonder if I could go back and get it now??? They never offered it to me but I probably wouldn't of taken it anyway. Now i know better. Does anyone know exactly what it covers?? I mean, if you take your black truck in cuz of swirl marks, will it cover that???

I have it, it covers rust, peeling, fading, but it dosent cover chips and swirl marks, more less if the paint fails then its covered.mine also covers the interior, if i get a stain and they cant get it out they will replace it! worth it in my opinion.

Don't buy the extended maintenance warranty just yet. It is my understanding that you can purchase that warranty at any time prior to your regular factory warranty expiring - 3 yrs / 36000 miles. I would sit and wait to see how the vehicle treats you those first few years. I've looked into the warranty and the platinum warranty (best) is quoted on Toyota's web site to be $1850 with no deductible and 7 years 100000 miles. I think that's a reasonable deal. But if you have no problems those first 3 years 36000 miles you may not want it. If you have several problems and plan on keeping the truck, then by all means purchase it! As to the paint protection - I have no experience pertaining to those. I've never used them. There's plenty of aftermarket treatments. I can say I have an old 96 Camry and the interior has always cleaned up very easily - without treatment.
