Locking differentials.

on the panel where you see the 4Hi 4 Low

there is a signal for Locking the differentials. its the drive train with an X crossing it out.
SO do the 4x4s come with the locking differentials... that be so awesome.

But there isn't a button for it..

anybody explain??

I am not sure I know what your talking about. I know the TRD's come with the Limited Slip Differential, but it is actually controlled by brake pressure so when one wheel slips, brake pressure is applied to that wheel thus sending power to the other wheel. It does not have clutches like a positraction or helical gears in the differential but basically uses the ABS sensors in reverse.

The TRD and the non TRD have the same Diff. There all open diffs with the brake BS to stop wheel spin

If you hit the VSC button it turns it on and if you hold the VSC button at a complete stop it will turn the LSD and VSC off. When you spin in VSC mode there is a picture of a truck that is sliding out of control.

In 4WD you have two choices, A-TRAC on, which is the default setting, or you can can turn it off. That is it. VSC is turned off automatically in 4WD.
In 2WD all Tundras are the same, although the 08's have the additional option of turning off VSC in A-LSD mode.
When you start your truck,(2WD), the default setting is VSC and TRAC on.
TRAC is like A-LSD but also has throttle control as does VSC.

The drivetrain button with the "X" in the middle is the center differential lock for AWD (All wheel drive) systems. It becasically locks the center diff so the front and rear get a 50/50 power split. Otherwise it's computer controlled and the front wheels only get enough power to satisfy the computer that traction has been gained.

BTW, the "X" button is not avaliable on the Tundras. We have part-time 4-wheel drive systems. The "X" button is on the 4WD/AWD Sequoias, Land Cruiser's, 4Runners and LX470-LX570s & GX470s.

This button does not mean it has locking front and rear differentials.

If you can spin both of your rear tires, that means that you are s.o.l.

There is no possibility of traction. [ uh, on the rear, I mean... ]

Next question.

I beg to differ on the traction reply - I left 40+ feet of double tread marks on the asphalt in front of my house. The truck WAS definitely moving!
