Another Consumer Reports Question

CR gives the GM and Dodge trucks credit for having full time four wheel drive. The Tundra and Titan are panned for not having full time four wheel drive. What exactly do they mean by full time four wheel drive? Does this mean that you can use four wheel drive while driving in the city? Please enlighten me.

Thank you

I know they have an "auto 4WD" setting that it senses wheel slip and will turn the 4wd on when needed.

Part time 4wd (regular) will bind the driveline if there isnt any slippage at wheels. Full time 4wd allows for the slippage in the driveline.

I Think As Everyone Reads Cr They Place More Stock In The Fact Of What Toyota Is Panned For Rather Than What They Are Praised For. Remember Gm, Ford And Chrysler Has Been Building Full Size Trucks Since George Washington Was In Nickers! So Naturally They Have A Few Things They May Do Different,or Perhaps Even Better. Toyota Is A ( For Lack Of An Better Description) New Kid On The Block. What Does Speak Volumes To Me Is The Fact In Just Its Second Year Of Production The New Tundra Is Motor Trends Truck Of The Year And Forced Gm To Rush It New 2007 Silverado Into Showrooms 13 Months Earlier Than Planned, And They Still Miss The Mark On Towing And Horsepower In The 1500 Silverado And Have Hussle On The 2500's. Let Not For Get The 2500's Cet Fuel Mileage Measured Not In Mile Per Gallon But Telephone Pole Per Gallon. Now Talk To Cr About This, Of Coures You Can Fill Volumes With Things You Don't Read.

I'm sorry but I like the option of being able to roast the factory BFG's into oblivion when I want. Also when your in full time 4wd your turning the front driveline and gas mileage suffers. I am happy with the traction control in the 2wd mode. I probably would not have but the Tundra if it was an allwheel drive. I think GM and Ford learned their lesson in the late 70's when everyone converted them over to part time.
