Stalling Tundra

I, or better yet, my father owns a 2001 Toyota Tundra 4WD i-Force V8 Limited. He is the type to beat the crap out of the car every now and then, and does not care or know much about car maintenance. It have many problems, so I hope you guys are ready to read. smile.gif My main concern is the problem with the car stalling. When I crank the car, a lot of times it would turn over for 2 seconds, then the RPM will bog and it will be around 300-500 rpm, then die out. So I try to crank it again, but with partially throttle, but even like that it sometimes die out. And if there were any success in turning over the engine, I would encounter another problem.
When I'm just driving around the city, and the car would just die OUT OF NOWHERE, or when I come to a stop, or when I pop it into Neutral. One time when I was making a turn, the car died out-- no power steering. This has already happened 3 times to me, and I do not know how many times it had happened to my father.
I am not an automotive expert, but I know a little bit here and there. I have checked the air filter, seems fine. Even had the spark plugs replaced, but problem is still there. What could cause this, and how can it be fixed?
I partially blame my father, but I cannot blame him fully, because he is a very person and must travel long distances here and there for his job to support the family. Any help/advice/suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

On a side note, on the 2001 Tundra and also on my 2000 Land Cruiser I noticed that when I pop the transmission into Neutral, it sometimes die out. Sometimes I would just drive normally, and pop it into neutral, and the engine would just stall. It doesn't happen to any other car I drive, but just there two. Something must be wrong. Thanks. -Ray

Try checking the alternator and even the battery. We had an Expedition that would die because of the alternator. I don't remember if it'd die going into gear, but since the RPMs will change when dropping into R or D, then it might cause it as well.

Possible injectors need cleaning.

If it was a late model Ford I'd say check the EGR and TPS...not sure if yall even have those on the i Force.

I know that if the throttle body gets carbon build-up the truck will do just what you are stating. I talked to a few mechanics and one from the Toyota dealer and they stated that they have cleaned alot of intakes. Once they have cleaned them then the vehicle runs fine. All they have done is taken off the intake hose and used carbe cleaner on the intake to clean them. Give it a try and see what happens.
