Tundra VS Lincoln

Was getting off the freeway after work today and there are 2 lanes that go across a four lane road and then merge onto the four lanes on the other side. This Lincoln Mercury I think was a Mark something or other that was a couple years old. Not a brand new one was in the left lane and me in the right. As we crossed onto the other side making a left at about 25mph he nails it. We are the first cars across so the road is clear ahead for close to a mile so I nail it too. No intersections or business for someone to pull out of in front of us. I have a RCSB 5.7 with a Cat back and TRD C.A.I. I pull away to about 2-3 car lengths and thats it. He stayed there to about 100mph and I backed off. Well he caught up to me a little farther down and from a 45mph roll he hits it first and he got 1 1/2 car lengths ahead and I couldnt pull up on him. Thats where I stayed . Guess I should have left it alone after winning the first round. And let me state the road was clear and we only had ourselves to hurt. I caught up to him and gave him the thumbs up. This thing was a 2 door with duals. Small looking for a Lincoln. Had a "slanted" back end. What do they put in these things as I did take out a stock 98 mustang before???? Also I didnt think I would be racing and was just getting off the freeway and didnt have my button pushed. Could that have made a difference??? I wouldnt think so since we were going from a roll. Go ahead and flame me if you must for racing.

Most likely one of the Lincolns with a v8. Maybe like the Mark IV or something like that.

It was a V8 for sure. Thats what got my attention when he opened it up. And it was a Mark, had the very small "wheel hump" on the trunk.

I know the new Lincoln MKZ' come with a 263 hp Duratec V6 engine. I find it hard to believe the Tundra couldn't overcome that but maybe it was an older one with a suped up V8. From what your describing I don't think it was a Lincoln Town car either. It could have been the LS with the 280 hp engine?

Like this one? Lincoln says roughly 280 hp. Kinda like one of those older Buicks. Nobody would think they have the power under the hood they really have unless you know. But they are a tad heavy. He prob modded it though. People who have them tend to think of them as a higher end luxury sport coupe.....You know.

Heh Siggman, nice kill on the first try. It is (from my experience) almost impossible to catch up if someone gets the jump on you if you are closely matched. I suggested a new "race discussion" bracket to admin. Glad to know that others like the sport (if done safely)

BTW Tampa, I have one of those "older Buicks", a 01 GS with modded supercharged 3.8! They can be very quick - especially down low.

You are also looking at gear ratio and weight plus a car vs a truck. That can make a big difference as well.

Close to that one. Could have been newer. It was a bit more "skinny" or sleek looking for lack of another word. Same kind of trunk "hump" but the front end seemed longer. It was a small car for a Lincoln. Along the size of a 2 door Taurus. Not a new car. I am sure I was much heavier of course. This was a small car with a V8. I have beat Hemi Rams, a Silverado SS and an F-150 (Ford was beat the worst) along with the older mustang which is a friends car and this thing would have taken the Mustang. Ya cant win em all. I just thought you guys had some ideas on what motor it could have been. I know it was a small light car but it seemed like he had a lot more than 280hp. Would have liked to try it from a light. I pulled away a few car lengths from the 25mph roll and he hit the gas first, but at 45 he hit the gas first again and he got me.

Sounds like you ran into a 93-98 Lincoln Mark VIII

They were a neat car for the time. In 93 they were a Halo car for Ford along with the 93 Cobra. They came with a DOHC 4.6L Italian Teksid built aluminum block. Basically the first of the DOHC Cobra motors. They made 280hp, independant auto adjusting air ride, stab control, anti lock brakes, the works. Unfortunately they weigh around 4200 pounds and were pretty slow. Usually ran low 16s-high 15s at the track.

Now we hotrod Ford guys look for them for the block that can handle upwards of 600hp without touching them. Most get scrapped for the block and heads. Pretty worthless now, but were still very neat cars. Beating one is nothing to crow about, though as there's very few left that actually run like new. I have a friend who buys them for stock round racing on the weekends. They get beat to death in 2 or 3 races, then we scrap it for the motor.

I'd like to see what I could do with a RC5.7 Tundra by adding gears, exhaust, and a 150hp wet shot. Bet it would pretty much own all trucks.

You also never know the true extent of what the guy did to it. For all you know he could have cammed it with rollers, full exhaust/intake, ecu, ignition, even diff piston heads and crank. Or maybe even blown. But you would have heard that a mile away.

fordoy- people have been running these stock heads up on tracks with lightnings and winning. Not a crazy truck but it was fords ss, and an SS that actually performed unlike the more recent silverado SS's.

Im waiting for someone to come on here with the TRD or better blower and everything tweaked and see and hear to true potential of this powerplant and drivetrain combo.

I'm fairly certain the Mark wasnt cammed...Cobra cams cost around $12-1800 for a nice set of 4. here are no lifter, rollers, or pushrods...it's a OHC motor. Ignition wont do anything for that car...I've seen some sprayed Marks in the 13s, but in that case the Tundra would have been crushed.

This was faster than a 15-16 sec. car. Like I said I have a RCSB 5.7 with the CAI and cat back duals, and he was right there. Must have done something to the motor.

OK...what time have you run in your truck? Any dyno numbers on your combination? If your truck runs 14s there's tons of 15 second cars that will hang with it from a roll.
