Question Rear End Gearing 4.30 vs?

I noticed that some Tundra's have the 4.30 gearing I believe and they get better gas mileage than the others. At lest 2-3 gallons per mile according to the sticker.

What other gearing is available?

Was wondering for those that have the 4.30 rear end do you see better gas mileage?

Pretty sure the tow package option on the 5.7 comes with 4.30 gears and the non tow package 5.7 come with 4.11 gears

Usually the higher the gear the lower the MPG. But the higher gears gives you better towing from a stop, better holeshot, but lower MPH also. The 6 spd tranny in the 5.7 Tundra helps boost MPG. Just thinkin back to my drag racing days

Ahhhh...gear ratios!! The higher the gear ratio number the more gear reduction there is. 4.30 gear ratio means that the pinion gear will turn 4.3 revolutions to turn the wheels 1 revolution in a straight line. 4.3 gear ratio is a fairly low gearing. This helps with towing but it doesn't help with MPG. The Tundra has a 6 speed tranny to give you a wide range of gear ratios between the engine and final drive. The final drive gear ratio will never change but the engine won't have to rev so high to achieve the 4.3/1 revolutions of the wheels. Thus the 6 speed tranny with it's wide range of ratios helps with MPG while still being able to tow well. Below are the gear ratios for the Tundra. You can see that in 4th the engine and trans output are turning at the exact same speed. Then in 5th and 6th OD the trans output is actually turning faster than the engine, thus increasing MPG. Hope this helps explain gear ratios and how they work a bit.
