Clearly does not account for only consumers....Hell it might, most people are clueless. If it looks pretty, buy it (point in case the 3 series BMW being the top in California). No shit companies love ford trucks, they fall apart in 4 years and they just sell them and get new ones prior to that happening, exponentially raising the number of GREAT Ford trucks holding onto dear life on the road today.
I have worked on all makes of vehicles and Fords are exponentially worse on all levels. Who wants to run a truck off a lift trying to change an oil filter because the geniuses designed the truck to be an absolute piece of shit that you can't access the oil filter without cranking the wheel all the way in one direction? Not me. Who wants their exhaust manifolds to crack in 60k miles because the AC water drain is located DIRECTLY above the manifold? Not me. The brand new mustangs also have known trans problems and I personally know two people that have went through longblocks within the first year of ownership in 2011/2012 mustangs (and they know how to take care of their shit, one of them is a technician FOR FORD).
Buy foreign designed vehicles, they last longer. If you can make a valid point that there are more Fords on the road than Toyotas with over 200,000 miles I will go live under a rock.
Ok, so here is a guy that casually explains the numerous problems he has had with his Super Duty; broken 4x4 etc. It is stuck in the mud while out camping with the trailer and with the power train only half working; the lowly Tundra came to save the day.
Needless to say he confesses he is not buying Ford again; but then says he will buy a Ram after the Tundra save. To be sure the diesel has the balls to get the job done, so I will give him some credit for at least switching brands.
So, by this graph, I would never drive a F-150 in most states, never drive a 3 series in California, and never drive a Nissan in Nevada. I'm not sure the last time I purchased a vehicle and said, "Eh, give me what everyone else has got.". and I've never said, "yes. I will keep it stock." Ever. Never.
The place I do some side work for has a fleet of 7 Ford trucks (From F150 to Superduties). 3-4 of them are consistently parked at the service department at the local Ford dealer for warranty work. For the past 20 years they always ran Ford trucks. Why do they stick with it even though they are always getting repaired you ask? Because they get them cheap, and trade them in before the warranty expires.
