I have a 2010 RCLB 4x4 and not long after getting it i started getting the clunking and hit from behind feeling. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the driveshaft, fixed the problem for a while , then started happening again. So took it in again and the replaced it again, this time time they said it was "the latest and greatest toyota tech" LOL. This was at 45000km. Now im at 76oookm and the clunking is back louder then ever(it came gradually). I dont get the hit from behind feeling anymore. So im not sure if its a different problem or not
I greased it up today and that didnt help at all. it only clunks when coasting at slow speeds going over uneven ground. . If im on the gas a little it doesnt clunk. I crawled under it today and wrapped my hands around the rear driveshaft , and theres no play in it really while its in Park. In Nuetral i can spin it back and forth a little. I checked heat shields and such and everything seems tight.
Any ideas or suggestions? Bad U-Joint? Or am i in for my fourth driveshaft?
