What does this tool look like and where can you get one?

To remove the oil filter use:

"65mm 14 flute oil wrench"

I finally did my own oil change today. It wasn't too difficult. I only had problems with the oil filter housing. It was way too tight.

I put 0w-20 Mobil in the truck. The dealer had been putting in 5-30 bulk when they changed it. I am sick of the crap you have to put up with when you use a dealer for service. The oil change procedure in this truck doesn't allow me the opportunity to take it just anywhere. I guess I am back to being a shade tree mechanic.

I have one with 15 flutes and 65mm. Any problem anticipated? Can a guy get a large channel lock on as a possibility? How about those that have an adjustable set of jaws, the more you tighten, the tighter they get? Can that cover be damaged by this?

Of course once I try it, I'll find out.

I'm also wondering about making a tool for forcing that plastic thing in, as with a 3/4" pipe fitted with a lug on the side for prying against the stabilizing bar, and also with a hose on the lower end to control the oil to a pan on the floor. Comments?

You guys who just think you should "pay to have it done" are not always in the same situation as the rest of us. Paying to have it done would be easier, but I have found that you risk the wrong oil being put in (twice in my case 5-30) and you risk finding the filter housing so overtorqued that you are scared to death about what else they may have done.

I am in a situation where the nearest Toyota dealer sucks. Therefore, I plan on doing routine maintenance myself or letting a local garage handle it. If I have a major issue, I am driving the truck 100 miles to the next Toyota dealer.

Whoa , there .
5-30 will not void your warranty so I don't know why that would be a major concern ? Not everyone has a bad experience with thier dealer , and it's really cheaper for most to have them do it and recycle your old oil. If the dealer does the oil changes for one , it's logged under your Vin# , and two if they screw it up , they have to fix it .
This is a sticky for the DIY oil change the way it's suppose to be done , and if people want to try it thats the purpose of the thread .
I have always changed my own oil , but the dealer does mine for 22.00 dollars and that's cheaper than I can do it myself and I have to drive about 35 miles to get there .
If you do your own that's great ! But no reason to get rattled because some of take them to the dealer and suggest others to do the same .

I am not rattled in any way. I just feel some disappointment in the way Toyota designed the oil change procedure on the 5.7 engine. I would like to have the option of going to a local shop for oil changes, but the procedures required keep me from doing that. If my local dealer were more trustworthy I would use them for the oil changes. Believe me, the pain in the butt process is worth letting someone else do, but I am not willing to allow my local dealer the opportunity to tell me they put in 0w-20 when they didn't. Fool me once, shame on you....fool me twice, shame on me.

So, use your local dealer if you want. I will continue to change my oil until they either get a different service manager or someone opens another dealership closer to home.

I guess its not with every toyota dealership or maybe its something new to sell trucks with current gas prices, but when I got my Tundra '08 6 days ago for 30,500 (listed at 39,900 with dealer add ons ) plus TTL. They had something where I get free oil changes for life. Just bring it to the dealership and they will do it free every 5,000 miles as needed... Anybody else get this?
