Okay, this might (certainly will) sound weird but I've noticed it since it was new. When I make a turn, I feel a breeze inside the truck on my right hand when it's rested on the shifter. Imagine if you're just relaxed driving and your hand is just kinda hanging there (shifter supporting your hand around your wrist so you're just kinda limp wristed I guess with your fingers near the cup holder pocket storage things below the heater controls). I make the turn and it feels like A/C blows on my fingertips mid-turn. It's very light, but definitely noticeable. As soon as I complete the turn it stops. Vents turned off, still does it.
* Do any of you guys notice this? Make a conscious effort next time you're driving and see if it does. I'm so confused.
I would delete this thread and hope no mental health doctor reads this. Goodbye guns...
Just kidding man.
Option 1) This makes me wonder if the shifter boot was installed or something is loose on the floorboard tunnel...or some boot is missing.
Option 2) You are not Jr. Quit taking corners at 55 mph, getting the "oh shit" moment and using your hand as a fake microphone... like a track announcer. "and Tommy takes the corner at wicked fast speeds...almost took out fence but all good.."
Option 3) You are cat woman crazy..go seek help and sell guns to me for cheap.
Are the vents Opened or Closed at the Back of the Console?
I have noticed that the cup holders on my truck will get ice cold at times (summertime with the AC running Auto High), and someone mentioned the duct work to the back of the truck may be the problem....I have never really looked into it; but I understand the inside of the center console storage will lift out?
Looks like a sixth sense coming....lol! I usually rest my hand on the shifter also but never noticed it. Wasn't paying much attention though. Guess next time I drive it I'ok see if that happens.
Very strange. This is something my wife mentioned a few days ago. With the cold(er) weather we have been having, I have had the heat on in the cab. It stays about half way between midpoint and lava hot. It is split between dash and floor. It is using outside air and once it is at temperature, I turn the fan off so the 'natural' flow still occurs. When I take a turn there is a movement of a cold air pocket across the cab. It does not happen all the time.
Now that she mentioned it, I notice it every time it happens.
I have this same thing happen in my work van. My theory has always been that the heat is on and directed toward you in the winter time, and when you turn a corner the air moves opposite the way you are turning because of heat essentially "rising". Think of it as a helium balloon in your vehicle. We've all driven with a balloon at some point and noticed that when we make a left hand turn, the balloon attacks us. i think this is the same phenomena. The heat in the vehicle just "rises" toward you. This is prolly totally wrong, but it makes me feel better about my own mental state!
There is a cable from the shifter to the transmission that goes through the floor. Maybe the seal where it goes through the floor isn't seated properly??
Yep, I get a small blast of cool air from under the dash from time to time...
It's not when making turns though...
Actually, it is more often then not when it is fairly cold outside...
I check to see if the dial is set to max heat as it is that noticeable at times...
Definitely cool air coming in from someplace for sure...
Just another one of those "small things" that I am noticing about this '14 Tundra. My '11 did not have these quarks...
These things lead me to wonder if the quality of the Tundra is dropping a bit...
(Don't hit me with the "well, you would know problems if you had purchased a Chevy or a Ford" 'cause that doesn't matter to me. I bought a Tundra and the '14 is not the same quality as the '11 I had)
Somewhat unrelated, but in the summer, when it's relatively hot out (mid 80's), with the A/C OFF, I get ice cold air out of the vents. The A/C compressor is NOT engaged. I've stopped to visually check and I listen as it's happening. I turn the A/C on and off and I can feel it. The RPM's drop slightly. So this happens when the A/C is definitely off. Some weird phenomenon that simulates A/C. Excess condensation from strange weather, barometric pressure, humidity, dew point, etc. I dont understand much of that. But it really does happen. A/C off, 85 degrees, very cold air coming out of vents.
You're not alone in your climate controlled psychosis.
Sometimes when i drive over 45mph in reverse for more than 8.5 minutes the air coming from the back of rear seat area smells faintly of almonds, but only very slightly. Sometimes you really have to think about it before you actually smell it but i swear its there:drive:
:laugh::beerchug:
I'm just Glad Aaron has restored our confidence in Tommy's sanity. I live in Michigan. If somebody doesn't tell me, I don't even notice it's cold. Ever.
I previously posted (#14) that I had the same problem as the OP…
I also have problems with where the heat is distributed to. When I have the setting on the defrost/floor mode, I get air movement through my vent also. If I don’t want this, I can only move the selector knob one click towards the floor mode from the defrost setting…
Also, if I have it on complete defrost and the fan at the highest setting, it takes 15 or so seconds to completely open the defrost door (or whatever it is called). The fan seems to be running slow and then all of a sudden it runs wide open as it was set to do…
Either my entire heating/vent/whatever system is messed up or this is just another quark in the 14’s. My 2011 did not do any of these things…
It seems you have to have the fan between mid and highest setting to even get much air movement to the windshield. When you do this, it makes more noise than on the lower settings…
Here is the truth, we bought a truck it's a work vehicle no matter how you spin it, it is. On the top it's made by Toyota, so all the money went in drive train. Almost nothing in interior and AC, fan and vents and stuff. That's why ram is gaining ground cause they are making a suv on frame with bed on the back which can do part time truck duty fine and for 99./; people it's perfect . Not lying it will work for me too.
Hence all the weird puffs and huffs of air. Compared to some other cars tundra is day and night difference. I wouldn't say poor cause then some of you gonna get your undies twisted.if you bought 1794 model, congratulations , you got a pig with lipstick, still a pig
Lots of people here should be in a land cruiser.
No offence peeps
I've Driven the Big 3 Vehicles before buying my Toyota's and am for buying Domestic Vehicles...
But the Big 3 Truck producers build Cosmetic Vehicles that Look very Nice if your Only keeping it for 3 to 4 years...Plus they don't Hold a Candle in the Wind to Toyota...
There getting Blown Away...Why do you think the other Brands are changing because of Toyota...
Their your Stealth Truck that's upcoming to watch out for...
But Ford, Chevy, GMC and Ram do Not come close for a Long Term Performance and Repairs are nothing issue...after 3 years (Give or Take) a couple of years of Ownership (Not All) they become Cash Cows for Repairs...
But to say Dodge RAM gaining Ground...Absolutely Not even close matter of Fact...I still Test Drive the Big 3 and I chose the Tundra Again...
Lot to be said plus Most of the Forum Guru are Jacking these Trucks looking Mighty Fine Road Warrior Trucks...
Not taking a shot at you Personally but for me I do 35,000 to 40,000 Year and the Big 3 doesn't Not have a Long Term Record other than Cash Cow Expenses...But they Look Nice...
I have a 2014 Tundra CrewMax Limited and have not noticed this. I'm not trying to make light of the issue, but it is far less problematic than those I had with a new 2007 Silverado. I had to have the damned thing hauled to the dealer 5 times due to total electrical failures. They never did locate the problem, at least not while I owned it. On the same day that I picked it up after its 5th overnight stay at the dealer, I got a 2009 Tundra. Earlier this year, I traded that for the 2014, which I really like. It has a much better ride than the earlier models. Good luck in nailing the air hole.

I had to copy and paste the above by jagtundra as it seems to have disappeared from the thread? Maybe I just missed it…
But concerning that thread:
WOW, I didn’t know that. I guess the naivety of some of us Tundra people has not limits…
Yeah, not a day goes buy that I don't see a Ram and long with envy (More eye rolling.) Especially when a new one pulls up next to me with gnarly exhaust & challenges me only to get smoked by 3 cars lengths by the time I hit 90 (about a 1/4). Not to mention my being jealous of the extraordinary longevity that Ram will get next to my Tundra (More eye rolling.) Also, not to seem peeved (i enjoy this stuff), but if given the choice, I will always choose of the production cost, R&D, etc went into drivetrain. I spend zero time wishing I had better vents and A/C. Air Vents don't help me smoke those Rams.
I bought my tundra cuz it works like a 3/4 ton and lasts like a Camry. That simple. Sharp lookin truck too. Mine is a 2014 TRD Crewmax SR5. No air issues. Not a flawless truck, but damn close. I like my 2011 DC also. I notice very little difference except the TRD related stuff, which is all an improvement.
Funny thing,... today on the hwy i turned off the heat and felt around the shifter and THERE IS a slight breeze there, its coming up from the shifter column and the steel post is cold, small air intrusion point i guess
Look about 1/2 way down the outside back of your cab between it and the bed on the corner and you'll see a vent on each side. Those are there to let air flow throughout the cab. When I run through the car wash the huge dryers will push the flap open from outside and let a gust of wind in the cab. On most trucks they are down low. The downside of that is if the bed drains down there (think drain tubes from a cover) and there is any negative pressure from the cab it can suck water into the cab. With them up high there isn't a chance of that happening.
I'd have your dealer check and make sure a flapper valve isn't stuck open for some strange reason.
As for driving a Land Cruiser, your darn skippy if I had the extra 30K between my Tundra and the LC I'd be driving the LC any day. One day with the LC will answer that question for most.
