2014 Volant Cold Air Intake !!

Heads up I just installed a Volant CAI on my 2014 and it definitely doe not fit properly! AutoAnything told me it would as well they have it listed as 2014 but where the box seats up against the fender you can stick your pinky finger through there. Rather then sending it back i'm going to silicone it up. Just thought everyone should be aware. If you wanna see pics i can add some.

I am in the market for a CAI as well. But wasn't sure that all these company's claiming they have a 2014 model out is actually for 2014 and not 2013 and below.

The toyota techs said it looks like it should fit exactly the same.

I would like to get the TRD one but its a little pricey.

One of the guys at the dealership told me AFE is the closest to TRD and wont trip a warning/cautious signal to the ECU. So if you are under warranty, this is a good thing.

What other brands have people used on their car and what warranty issues do you run into if any??

That sucks that the Volant one didnt fit to well....PICS would be great!

not trying to an A-hole but,

CAI basically do nothing for toyota trucks when otherwise stock, no charger etc.

other than make more noise, I tried one before too, boxed it up and sent it back as many others did.

just wanted to make sure you guys known that.

We had a ton of oil analysis on the first gen tundra over on TS and they were also letting in more dirt etc than the OEM toyota filters and more wear metals etc were present!!

unfortunately this info was lost in a site crash.

I just had the TRD dual exhaust installed on my truck. Might not be much of a performance gain but I Love the sound! I wouldn't mind coupling it with CAI.

Also I never messed with one on a Tundra truck, but it looks like these are Short ram intakes more then a Cold air intake.

Cold air is usually drawn from somewhere away from the engine bay where the heat isn't exposed to the filter drawing in air. But these look like it replaces the stock intakes in the same locations as far as where the filter is located. I haven't looked closely yet at the filter box, but it may be drawing cold air from the fender well into that box where the filter sits.

Here is two Pictures. The obvious picture with the pinky sized gap is where is should seal to the fender. There is only one screw to mount the box which fits in the factory hole so theres no way it could be outa place.

And as for not adding any power i would have to say the dyno sheets prove that they do had a touch of power. Not 36 hp like the volant box says but other dyno sheets i have found say 7. Not enough to notice but combine that with the 7 hp the TRD true duals add (dyno proven) and the new hypertech chip i also have should bring me around 400 hp. Enough to make up for the 35" tires to the stock tires.

And like stated it sounds mean and awesome! Good enough for me!

Where is the dyno sheet? I would be curious to see what it did to the low end torque to get those 5-7 hp at 5-6K RPM. Most of the ones I have seen lose low end to gain a few HP way UP high.

not trying to be difficult, just curious as toyota usually does the best job stock with these things, especially since you can't custom tune for any of it.

Jeez i just spent the last 20 min trying to find the link to the dyne. I thought it was truckin' where they did a build on a tundra and they did step by step and did dyno with the trd exhaust and again after the Volant and they came up with the 7 hp number. Ill keep trying

no big deal, I was just curious.

I have seen a few tundra dynos over the years with these things and it's really never worth it stock, usually a loss of low end to gain a few HP way up. especially after the computer adjusts, many times they don't take that into consideration

but maybe they have gotten better

no, I mentioned low end TORQUE....

That's what I mean, they're graph STARTS at 4800 RPM and has not torque on it.

HMMM....

how often do you drive starting at 4,800rpm?

that wouldn't sell me, no way...

unless you just like the looks and the sound and not mind possibly losing low end torque...

we would need to see a real dyno to know the real story, not just one that favors a very small amount of the powerband

True good point. Still combined with the exhaust and chip its bound to do something. And for $300 not out a whole lot if it doesnt work. But more to the point of the thread if anyone is buying this kit for the 2014 know that it doesnt fit properly!

I hear you bro..

I would just want to make sure that that "something" isn't lose low end FTLBS, that's what really counts!!

When did Hypertech release the interceptor for the 14. I just talked to them last week and they said it does not work on the 14s yet. Thanks

I hope they were wrong! I was over on the Hypertech thread and talking directly to the hypertech vendor and he told me the '13 work directly on the '14s so i ordered one. Its in fact sitting in y kitchen at home right now!
