2007 rear differential problem

I have an 07 Crewmax with 65000 miles and the rear diff is making a roaring noise at about 50mph. The dealer says the whole diff has to be replaced at a cost of about 1800.00. The factory says because it is out of warranty they will offer to cover half the cost of parts only. Anybody else had diff problems?

Wow kind of expensive. No I can't say I had that problem. I take it you don't have an extended warranty. That shouldn't have went out with that low of mileage either. I haven't seen anyone with a new tundra with that problem. Do a search and see if you can find anyone else having this issue. Let us know what they find.

The rear end on these things is pretty heavy duty... would really surprise me if it went out that early. $1800 sound like a huge amout for a rear end too.

I'm not saying it can't happen, but I'm a born skeptic. Did they say what it was in the "differential"? Do you have aftermarket parts on it that may have changed the drivetrain geometry? Were you towing for a large part of thise 65k miles?

I am glad to hear someone else is also having this problem, my rearend is howling too. I can only hear it riding in the bed or with the rear window down. Isnt it bullshit that its howling at only 15,000 miles?!? i do some burnin rubber, has it possably come from that? would it have come from doing one wheel wonders? ANY thoughts, anyone?

I dont think that it is the torque converter, because it gets louder only with mph and not with engine speed

Yes definitely get it looked at. The dealer will give an answer and that will help out 1970 Nova. I would hate to hear that burning rubber caused this.

It has had two loads of dirt hauled and one trailer pull hauling my show car on an open trailer. There are no modifications to the truck. Most of the miles are highway.

It shouldn't be happening.
