If you have to get the rear end replaced, take the money that Toyota gives you and get one from a wrecked Tundra. There are plenty of them out there.

Or you could replace it with a Dana rear end and lockers. Course you'd have to regear the front as well.

We have a whopping sound problem with our 2007 extended cab, but with the front end. We took it in to Toyota and they said it was the differential. So they are ordering the part we need and replacing it. It is a 4 hour job to replace, but luckily it is still under warranty.

We also had an issue with the engine cover paint peeling off. They ordered us a new one for that too.

There has also been an issue with the trailer hitch wiring shorting when plugged in. Didn't happen on the other trailers we've had but when we bought another one it shorted out. The problem was fixed by Toyota they are aware that it is a problem.

Just wondering if anybody else has had this particular problem .... when going over a speed bump at relatively slow speed the whole box shutters or shakes for a few seconds. It does not do it under load.

I guess I should mention that I really do like my truck, my first post did sound kinda negative I guess, but those are the few problems I've had. I wouldn't trade it for anything else, except a newer Tundra!! But I just discovered this forum and it is a great place to come and discuss issues, good or bad!!

Just talked to Toyota and found out that there was so much damage to the front axle from the differential problem that the entire front axle has to be replaced. Now I'm without my truck until the end of next week. What's really scary is that I drive the freeway every day at high speeds and now I find out that my axle has been compromised.........yikes!!

The front axle ? Do you drive in 4wd a lot ? if not it's hard to beleive that went bad already when there is no load on it in 2wd.

Nope, hardly use 4wd at all, other than in the winter(only 2 since we bought it). We put it in 4wd at least once a month to keep everything lubed, but not for very long.

Man that sucks. At least it's under warranty. But usually when in 2wd the front axle is just going for the ride, there is really no load on it so it probably was bad from the factory is my guess.

It happens on my 09 DC but it did happen on my 08 Titan and 07 F150 and those were fully boxed frames...so I guess its normal.

My 02cents Is I Have On 07 And So Do A Few Others. Its Never Good To Buy The First Batch. There Are Always A Few Kinks That Have To Get Worked Out. But Who Wanted To Wait. I Knew Buying The First Of The New Body Style Wasn't The Best Idea However My Dealership Offered Full Powertrain On All Of His Cars So I Didn't Worry. Mt Tranny Does Some Stuff I Dont Like But Its The First Of The New Trucks . This Kinda Stuff Will Happen, Regardless Of How You Treat Your Truck. Bc I Dont Think Any Of You Guys Personally Are Really Hard On This Truck .

2007 SR5...20,000 miles I have had this road noise sound going on for some time. The first time I took it in they told me my tire had a "cup" in it. I then took it to a tire dealer who told me he didn't think it was the tires at all. He told me maybe wheel bearings or front differential. He told me to have them put it up on the rack start it up and let the wheels turn. Toyota did just that, they told me my tires are fine, but they said I will need a new front differential. They said they will take care of it. Fine by me. Interesting to read other people with the same problem. BTW The tires are Michelin was told they are the best ride and quiet? Hope to get back to that quiet ride.
