Crawled the forums for a long time looking for some advice on converting a 2wd truck to 4wd. Parts seems to always be a problem (money-wise), and one of the biggest issues for someone with this kind of project. But what if you found a donor vehicle with the necessary parts in working condition and for a manageable price? Would a conversion using parts from an affordable donor vehicle be worth while? And are their any structural differences between 2wd and 4wd Tundra models that would get in the way? (I know on Ford's some of the steering components are in different places and there is a crossmember under the engine that requires modification when converting)
Any good, relevant knowledge would really be a help. Thanks!
It worries me that you know what is involved to convert a ford. Seems like you should just buy the 4wd from the get go lol. As long as you have a donor vehicle just keep swapping everything until you get what you desire. Or, drive the donor and replace any damaged parts over from your vehicle.
I would also verify if the frame part numbers are the same. There would be another hurtle to cross.
