I just finished two weeks driving my mechenics G-1.
My truck has the (unusual for a 2 WD) TRD package, which includes Bilstein shocks and it rides more like a truck; I feel the bumps.......
I also feel like the truck is on rails. Far more precise driving than the standard G1 Tundra.

Hey guys...might have missed it in the thread. Is it possible that I've actually LOST mpg after doing this mod?? I dropped from about 15-18, to 12-13mpg. What am I missing????

I doubt you would lose that much mpg, if any from this mod. If you reset your computer, you'll have to give it time. I'm guessing that you may have averaged more highway miles when you were getting 15-18 and now that you've reset the computer you're seeing less highway miles on the average.
You don't remember slapping bigger tires on there by accident, do you?

That or you are so stricken with the amount of horsepower you have gained that your driving style has changed in such a way that your tend to get on the gas more and thus loose on gas mileage.
I would like to see how much horsepower one has gained from removing this filter any body do a dyno?
its like people are trying to sell crack or something..
come on mannnn take out ur filter!!! everyones doing it maannnn, its the coolest maaannnn.. dude
off topic but had to ask uber. what is the offset on ur rims?
Oh I did do the mod too and notice a little diff in sound but overall not much. I am getting 19mpg but that is with really conservative drivin.

Uberdude; I don't see a "Decepticon" badge mentioned in your sig...but I see one on your grill; and is that one on your side panel???
Nice; where'd you find those?
I'm really diggin' your truck.
I've got a 10' black 2wd SR5; wish I got the 4WD, but couldn't justify the extra $$ to myself.
For the thread...I dropped in a K&N yesterday; and didn't reset the computer via battery disconnect; will do that tomorrow, then drive it again. Then, probably yank the carbon filter out the day after and once again reset the puter'. After just changing out the drop in filter (without resetting the computer, as I didn't know we should do that), I didn't really notice a difference. So; we'll give 'r a go tomorrow. I'll also reset my mpg counter tomorrow; averaging about 13.5 mpg strictly city driving for me.

Ahhhh...snow...
I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. I grew up in Minnesota and North Dakota. Joined the Navy in 94' and haven't had to wear gloves and a stocking hat in just about that long...except for the occasional holiday.
Where's your locale?
I did this mod this week and it does seem to run a little better. Not sure I can hear much difference and I'll have to wait a bit to see if there is any MPG increase.
Guys i dont know why you are taking off the negative terminal to reset the computer, there is a reason you have a maf, it reads the air and sends the signal to your ecu to adjust fuel, its going to do the same whether you undo the negative terminal or not. Resetting the battery does nothing, just pisses you off as you now have to re-enter your radio stations lol
Going outside to do this now

I haven't read the whole thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned or not. But wouldn't this charcoal filter also act as a kind of "pre-filter" in addition to being for emissions purposes? If so, wouldn't it help keep the air filter cleaner for longer?
